Lenses are often considered as the last item to buy when buying photo equipment. People tend to buy a (cheap?) lens with an extreme zoom range, with compromises, instead of good quality glass. At least I did. I did not want to drag around a bulky and heavy zoom anymore and decided to buy prime glass. This 77mm 1.8 is my second prime (first is a 35mm f/2.8 Macro). I never realised what I missed in quality and sharpness before this prime lenses. Photo's are tick sharp and colorfull. Pros: Fast, small, light in weight, good building quality. Cons: No manual focus when camera is set to autofocus.
I needed a prime lens with medium telephoto capacities and perfect rendering. This lens met all my requirements. This is a work of art. Tack sharp at all apertures, the details in the pictures are flawless, the colouring is the accurate 100%, DOF is fantastic especially in portraiture. It is especially useful in low light pictures with its somewhat slow autofocus, but nonetheless superb. I would buy this lens again and again.
Pros: compact, sharp, great value. The only con is that the focusing ring is synchronized during autofocus, so one has to practice not touching it in AF mode.

As above, this lens lives up to its reputation. If I could have only one single prime lens this would be it.
