Last camcorder I had was a VHS-C. This is so much smaller, yet produces a nice recording. I could not use any old SD card in it, they would not recognize recordings from the previous day! New, fast SDHC cards with fast write times work just fine. The camera is not very intuitive and there is a significant learning curve. The manual is not that easy to understand. DO NOT buy this camera for an event next week! Buy it at LEAST a month before and get to know it! You cannot buy the cheap batteries off the internet and get good function. If the battery is not Canon-official, you'll get warning messages and a some features disabled. The camera shows a message that says it "cannot communicate" with the battery. Therefore, a ten dollar battery with a similar capacity is somewhat disabled, compared to the official $60 or $80 Canon battery. All previous comments I read on this camera suggested that it was a very competent, cost-effective camera. Other than having a "battery-neutering" feature, I think they were correct. Don't look to this camera to be the latest-greatest, just a good value. If you ever drop, lose, or get stuff stolen, this camera is a good compromise.Read full review
I was interested in purchasing a small video camera for upcoming vacations. I didn't want to spend much for this type of camera as it will not get a great deal of usage. However, I was seeking quality, and as a very happy owner of a Canon digital camera I leaned toward Canon's products. After reviewing all of the small video cameras offered on the market I came back to the Canon FS200 because of the attributes highlighted in their ads. I am very happy with my purchase. It's size and quality certainly fit my needs. Again, the Canon people have not let me down.
We use it horse back riding, road riding on motorcycle and general travels. Nice and light weight, camera is easy to use. My old one was like having and anvil around your neck. Don't even notice this one. If any dislike it would be the software that comes with it. I found it hard to use, and not intuitive. The .mod files is not compatible with a lot of the software I am using, but enough programs out there to convert. Just makes another step in the process to move them up to Utube. ON my own system, they work fine. I bought it because of the package deal online. It works decent in dim lit places also as we are shooting a lot with it in indoor horse rings. So far, pretty good. Not sure how well the stabilizer will work while out on the trail. To much snow here right now to try that out. We like it for our needs.Read full review
This is my 5th video camera. It's my first Cannon. I am really impressed with the capabilities of this little camera. For the average person you can't beat it. I shoot green screen shots with it, I use it on a motorcycle and shoot windshield shots on my jeep. Very easy to use. Price wise, it's unbeatable compared to cameras of the same capability. When I'm not using it I can put it in my pocket. Battery Life is acceptable. I just bought extra batteries. No battery will last as long as the SD card anyway. If your looking for a starter camera, definitely look at the Cannon FS200, you won't be disappointed.
I have Mac 08 I-movie and wanted an inexpensive video camera that would be compatible and easy to use. The features of this camera are so much better than anything in its price range that it was a no brainer. The reviews that I read that were positive were all true especially about the great sound (even has external mic & AV out. An outstanding zoom with a stable, easy to use format. I'm a fishing guide and now take video of my clients catching fish. The mac does a great job of editing and I can upload to Youtube in minutes. You can find better cameras but you'll have to spend several hundred dollars more. The FS200 has more features than the newer FS300 and I paid less than $225. on EBAY with free shipping. I purchased an 8GP card for $30 and for convenience, a card reader to plug into my Mac for $8. Battery life is about 2 & 1/2 hours. I also ordered a magnetic Gorilla tripod to attach this camera to my boat console. It does the job! Compare this to a Flip or other camera in its price range and you'll see that this camera is way ahead with its features.Read full review
