About this product

Product Information

The ASUS Sabertooth X79 motherboard is a durable, second generation Intel Core i7 board that can handle numerous high-intensity functions. The foundation of any computer system is a good motherboard. This motherboard from ASUS is highly extensible, supports powerful technologies, and can be optimized for lots of different applications. The Sabertooth X79 comes equipped with multiple ASUS technologies that enhance the performance of the rest of your hardware. Whether you're building your own rig for hardcore gaming, video editing, or using multithreaded applications, these motherboards will form an excellent foundation for a powerful computer system. The ASUS Sabertooth X79 is compatible with any Intel processor utilizing the LGA2011 socket. A compatible CPU would include any Intel Core i7 processor. The digital power control for CPU and DRAM contains three digital voltage controllers that offer ultraprecise memory tuning and CPU voltage control. The ASUS Sabertooth X79 boasts the Intel X79 chipset, which is a complex chipset equipped with many of the features available on a consumer-grade motherboard. Eight quad-channel DDR3 RAM slots with support for up to 64 gigabytes of memory mean that this motherboard can support a large memory bank, which will enhance any application you need to run. The six SATA ports allow you to connect multiple storage systems to the computer at high speed, enabling tremendous data-storage capacity. The Sabertooth X79 increases system performance up to three times more than normal base performance with the ASUS SSD-caching feature. Two PCI Express 3.0 slots are installed on the board, allowing you to link up two graphics cards. With Crossfire X technology, you can easily use two displays or connect one graphics card to the other to enhance your gaming experience. A USB 3.0 controller with two ports and four USB 2.0 controllers allow you to connect as many USB devices as you need. Onboard, eight-channel audio enables HD-quality sound right out of the box.Heat, dust, and electro-static discharge are the enemies of system performance, and the ASUS Sabertooth X79 comes equipped with a variety of technologies to keep your computer going strong. The Thermal Armor feature gives it airflow-boosting heat dissipation, while the thermal radar monitors heat levels to prevent your computer from overheating. DIGI+ Power Control allows for precise adjustments of power consumption by each of the board's components. This extends the life span of these elements while significantly decreasing power consumption. Military-certified TUF capacitors, chokes, and MOFSETS ensure the ASUS Sabertooth X79 will meet durability standards. The ATX form factor is engineered to fit most PC cases.Good BIOS firmware makes important configuration tasks simple. The ASUS UEFI BIOS installed on the Sabertooth X79 makes tasks like overclocking and fan speed configuration much easier to carry out. By making their BIOS graphical, ASUS has taken a lot of the difficulty and guesswork out of traditional BIOS systems and made it easier for end-users to operate. With a 64-bit operating system, this BIOS is capable of handling any hard drive with up to 2.2 terabytes of storage.

    Good Mobo with quirks

I was able to install pretty much everything in an easy first pass and booted to a generalized Windows install without issue. A few days later however, I notice it was taking longer to boot and became so slow that I could barely boot into safe mode. I read up on how the SSD caching could cause issues so I reconnected my SSD's to the regular 6 gb/s SATA ports instead of the SSD caching ports and everything ran fine. Another minor issue is the fact that AI suite mixes up the 12V and 3V rail voltages readings and says the 12v is 3v and vice versa. Just have to switch off monitoring in the thermal radar in AI suite to stop the notifications (or uninstall AI suite). Besides these two minor problems, everything runs smoothly.

  • Average board, nothing special with a large variety of compatibility issues

This motherboard is not nearly as good as it looks and it has a ton of issues if one would really like to go truly extreme on it(I7 3960x/4960x and 32GB+ of RAM). It's major drawback is the automatic down clocking of the Extreme processor,if multipliers like 40X or higher are used it will default to 3.6GHz from 4GHz+ even with disabled C-states and thermal monitoring under custom made water cooling and that with the finest kit of Ripjaws 32GB 2133 memory. The VRM runs very hot and this is probably a major cause of failure, many experienced users reported numerous failures (SATA,USB,POWER VRM,NIC,SOUND)within a year time period without even overclocking. It is definitely not good for a pro overclocker or heavy gamer, some will not clock over 4.5GHz and I have seen stability issues ...

  • The best X79 motherboard you can get

I've owned a few X79 motherboards including the Sabertooth, ASUS X79 Rampage Extreme IV (both of which I still own and use with Core i7 4930K CPUs and 64GB Corsair 2400 MHz DDR3 RAM), and the ASUS X79 WS-E Workstation board, and this is easily the best because of it's superior design, manufacture, software and component quality (Server Quality), and performance, all of which beat the other motherboards I have. And with this Sabertooth board you get Windows Overclocking (and fan adjustment/BIOS updating) software which the Rampage Extreme board also has, but in in a cruder and uglier way (the BIOS too) and which the later X99 Sabertooth board lacks altogether (the Windows Overclocking feature is gone) and a 5 year warranty from the date of purchase or manufacture if you don't have the ...

  • I'm so glad

I was really glad there is someone out there that is making these bios chips. My machine is five or six years old now and I was able to get a chip with the latest bios update on it. Without it I would just have an i7 carcass that wouldn't even boot. So I'm thrilled. The whole process from ordering to delivery worked too. I'm thinking about buying a backup just because it's inexpensive and the process for updating the BIOS on my system has changed and is causing problems for me.

  • Great MOBO buy it

I brought this as an upgrade and replacement for my X56 sabertooth. I went for the automatic overclocking capabilities just set the parameters that you want and the board does the rest and if the board become unstable, it can be reset with out much hassle. I am not the overclocking type but I like the idea that I can boost the system up just that much. It can be made to operate quietly by optimizing various fan speeds via the UEFI BIOS and the software that can be downloaded from Asus website, which I like very much. When it came to bang for the buck this board was the right one for me. I am always some what concern about buying a new board as opposed to a used one. You can buy a new board sealed from manufactures and it is DOA or it arrives with problems needing RMA, which is just not a ...
