    High quality build and sound

    As expected, I am very pleased with this head unit. Many useful built-in features and once oriented to the operation of multi-function buttons (ie. base, treble, balance, fade) it is easy to use. Tuning is easy and station finding is versatile. ipod compatibility is second to none and CD feature is good. The only issue is the brightness level of the extra blue lights around the perimeter of the controls which at night can cause quite a glare and make the buttons hard to read. Would be nice to have a dimming feature.

    Really nice

    I had an alpine system in my conversion van years back and it was my pride and joy. Sweet sounding system. My son was in need of replacing the factory stereo in his 96 Buick LeSabre and we went with the Alpine. Had it installed and we are impressed. Good sound with the factory speakers (going to replace them too). The radio reception is better than good. Has a USB hookup so he can install his mp3 player or a portable hard drive. Lots of great options. The display is attractive and everything is easy to use. We didnt' get the remote with this one, but I'm not sure what you need a remote for in a car stereo.

    Good... But Is It Worth It?

    This is a great head unit. No doubt about that. It has everything. It plays CDs (duh). It plays iPod (cool). It plays songs from generic media, like flash drives (via female usb adapter) (awesome!). It even plays things from really far away Using Bluetooth (zomgwtfexplode). And it looks like it came straight off the set of Avatar, what with the superbright blue LED faceplate. That said, I do have a few bones to pick. Number one, the ipod and usb cable are in the back of the unit meaning they invariably lead into the unholy recesses of your dash. What this means is that, to make use of your ipod or flash drive cables you have to extract them. Somehow. And fend off the souls of the damned and cacodemons who are sure to come flying out.     Best audio unit i've ever owned

    I hook this unit directly to my corolla 2006 stock speaker front, pioneer 5x7 in the rear. pre-out go to JL amp 500 powering the W7 12" JL. The sound is crystal clear, the built in amp works just fine. Overall, the control buttons are easy to use. I practically memorize all the button functions. The iPod and USB interface is a major plus. After 8 yrs, this unit still perform like brandnew. I am very impress with Alpine reputation and quality.

    Great value. Loaded with features.

    First off, I decided to buy it as I believe Alpine makes the best car head units on the market. The CDA-9886 is part of a series (9xxx series) that over the years I have owned a few of. This model does not dissapoint with the ipod attachment cable included (giving full control of and charging ipod) and the ability to plug a usb drive to have all of your favorite songs at the ready in an instant. Easy to use layout, excellent amp and sound quality, smart EQ, sub control make this unit a big bang for the money. There is so much more you could say about features, but simply put, you will be happy you purchased this unit.
