Pretty good microphone for the price

I was pleasantly surprised by both the sound and build quality of the PDMIC58. It really sounds good on vocals, and feels heavy-duty. I took a peek at the construction of the microphone cable, and although the center conductor is smaller than the outside diameter would indicate, it is fully shielded and even has an embedded string. I actually prefer the sound of this mic to that of a vintage and more expensive back-electret type I have.

I pretty much got what I paid for

This is a cheap mic. In every sense of the word and is isn't even wired correctly, so don't expect good sound, professional wiring or a good overall mic and you won't be as disappointed. Well OK, it doesn't look too bad so it may work well as a prop for pictures.

  • Look great, but the appearance is deceiving. Disappointing acoustically.

This mic costs about 1/5 of the price of a Shure SM58 and looks identical to it, even internally. The model number suggests it should be a close approximation. The capsule is a very detailed copy of it's Shure predecessor. Unfortunately that is where the similarities end. Acoustically the midrange is honky and has peaks between 400-1200hz making feedback an issue with monitors. It does not have the rich bass response or the signature bass boost proximity effect of its Shure counterpart. I bought 4 of these new, for less than the price of one SM58, to give them a try. I presumed they might be ok for backup vocals or micing guitar amps at the worst case. I have revised my view about backup vocals, I think they are destined to be limited to using them for micing guitar amps. They may also be ...

  • Awesome MIC

This mic is a great alternative to the Sure SM58. Sound quality is great. This is not as heavy duty so I probably would not gig with it but for the studio it's great. I also have the SM57 clone that Pyle makes and I think the sound quality is just as good as the expensive brands.

  • Just as good as the expensive brands

I can't believe this microphone can compete with the Shure SM58. In terms of quality they're identical. In terms of audio this one only needs to have slightly more bass added to the P.A. then they're the same, except in price. A carrying case would be nice but this is still an awesome mic.
