Sony's exclusive Digital Cinema Sound modes ensure a theater-like performance in your home. 2 digital inputs and the 5.1 channel input give you plenty of flexibility, now and in the future. The LFE output makes it easy to add a powered subwoofer to the system. Top it off with the unified remote control for operating other Sony products in your A/V system, and you're in command. All that's left is to connect your DVD player and you're in for a home theater experience like never before.Dolby Digital (AC-3) Decoder allows you to experience the thrills of today's stunning Hollywood soundtracks right in your family room. By decoding five discrete audio channels, plus a separate subwoofer channel for dynamic low bass performance, Dolby Digital delivers crisp dialogue, breathtaking movement across the soundstage, and thunderous special effects. DTS Digital Decoder DTS (Digital Theater Systems) is an established digital multichannel audio format found mostly in movie theaters. Dolby Pro Logic Processor decodes 2-channel Dolby Surround-encoded into 4 discrete channels (left, center, right, surround), creating a movie theater-like surround experience in the home. Virtual Dolby Surround electronically simulates/creates a rear sound field when you have no rear speakers. Digital AM/FM Stereo Tuner processes FM and AM radio broadcasts digitally, locking in on the signal for less drift and reduced distortion. Variable Delay Time level adjusts the surround sound to match your listening room and speaker setup. Synchronizes the arrival of sound from Front, Center and Rear speakers, for Dolby Pro Logic reproduction. S-Link Control System enables compatible Sony components to communicate with each other. This function is required for such special features as CD Synchro Record. Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) recreates different sonic environments, simulating the acoustics of locations like arenas, churches, and clubs. Simulated surround systems create a phantom center channel, expand the front left and right channels and place virtual surround speakers around you, simulating the effects of a multichannel system. Pink Noise Generator allows for proper speaker balancing. It sends a static noise signal, in turn, to each channel, allowing you to adjust each channel's level and volume for the size of your environment and your listening preferences. Sleep Timer automatically turns off the power after a preset time period for those times when you drift off to sleep during use.

    perfect for a tv amplifier

    perfect for a tv sound amplifier. My friends needed something to give then better sound than the TV speakers. We combined this with some auto 6x9s and it's just fine. They're in their 70s and don't need or want surround sound as their home is small, and this fits the bill perfectly for them. The price was right, installation was a breeze, and they're happy, therefore so am I.

    Sony AM/FM Receiver STR-DE445

    This a Really Awesome Receiver. Works very well with Blu-ray players that have Coaxial Audio or optical hook up and works great with Blu-ray disc that have dts 5.1 or 7.1 audio. And Dvds that 5.1 Channel Audio. Or dts audio Dvds this hands down a great Receiver for the money you pay. It sounds just as good as the new ones in my opinion.. and i'm very picky person when it comes to sound quality....so im giving this 5 stars all the way........ and the audio is very crystal clear and clean no distortion.

    Sony STR DE445 5.1 channel 400 Watt Receiver

    Easy set-up, controls and connections in back are clear and well defined. Very good audio quality and options for customizing sound fields to your environment. Outputs PCM stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround mixes. Ability to connect CD, DVD, VCR, audio cassette deck, Phono and AUX sources and has inbuilt AM/FM tuner. Only has one speaker output mode, not A/B capable, which would be preferable for connecting additional speakers in another room. Overall quality of manufacture is solid and has initial "Demo" mode to see and hear all capabilities, plus can emit test tones to make sure all speakers are connected and functioning properly.

    Sony STR DE445 5.1 channel 400watt Receiver

    Mainly purchased as an Amplifier for 5.1 Sound System; unit works fine, but somewhat difficult to adjust for balance of speaker pairs. That is, for volume balance between front, rear , center & surround pairs. I obtained the User manual online from Sony website, but contrary to my expectations it was only moderately helpful. Seems almost impossible to locate a Receiver that inherently does the task I mentioned above, even in the top-of-the-line expensive name brand Receivers. I will have to purchase an accessory Speaker Volume/Switcher unit to accomplish my desire aforementioned. Incidently,you must use an active (powered) Subwoofer with this Receiver, as that signal is only pre-amped by Receiver; works fine though.

    SONY rules!

    Great Clean sound! Very active rear channels but it would be nice to have B speakers too! Easy to understand menu plus a bunch of power that trashed my old speakers and forced me to buy a set of infinity speakers to handle the output. Only reason I would ever get rid of this unit is to upgrade to 7.1 but I would still get a Sony!
