Older is Better
With all the new models coming out with 7.1. 9.2, 4k, HDMI I became overwhelmed at the prospect of keeping up with the latest and greatest. I am a bit old school and have always had two channel receivers. These older receivers from the early 2,000's were built well, have just enough features for options down the road should I want to add more speakers. I love the 2 channel option this has and it has bass and treble setting as well as great FM reception and a nice bright display, unlike the newer models that have sacrificed older features for more HDMI inputs. To me, these older receivers are built much better and I love this model. Very good sound, not perfect, only because it lacks a strong base. It has many connection possibilities, analogue, digital cable (SPDIF), fiber optic and also S-video. The pre-programmed music themes are a bit confusing, as I would prefer just adjusting it all for myself.

It's a last-generation A/V receiver (circa 2002), but that's why it's under $100 on eBay instead of $800. It does not have HDMI or DVI video inputs, so it's best for audio-only or for S-video hook-ups or when your HDMI sources (settop box/DVD player) are connected directly to your flat-screen. For the best sound, be sure to use the digital audio (optical or coax) S/PDIF connections from your audio source, if possible. The only down-side to this product is that it is so feature-packed, the setup process and remote control buttons can be difficult for the technically ... This is the most detailed sound home theater receiver you can get for the money! I had a modest priced JVC receiver for my first surround system & I thought it was very efficient...until I upgraded to Sony. The surround sound signals this unit produces has me looking over my shoulder for things that seem like they are soooo very real-sounding from all areas & distances! And the great part is, I am running a very inexpensive JBL speaker system...this receiver makes the speakers perform like high-dollar audiophile gems. The best "audio investment", to date, has definitely been this Sony receiver!This is the most detailed sound home theater receiver you can get for the money!
