Nice product. Solid construction.
I wouldn't recommend it as a primary fire starter. It requires very dry material and multiple try's to get results. If in very cold conditions,could be very difficult. Must keep extra rubber o-rings as well. Lube for rings. I will keep it as a backup for sure. Ferro and knife is better primary source. Quality product construction. Will last.

A Very Nice Piece of Kit!
This Fire Piston is handmade. The tolerances are perfect for a tight seal which leads to a hot ignition. The exterior is wrapped in Hickory wood making for a bigger more comfortable grip for those of us with larger hands (or arthritis! ;-) It is still plenty small as to not to take up much room in your Survival Kit or BOB. A very nice piece of Kit.

Fire Piston for Survivalists
I like the fire piston as a survivalist tool. It takes a while to learn to use it, but with a lot of practice I can finally start a fire with it almost every try. I recommend it for bug out bags, or to carry for emergencies. I always carry a lighter, but have this as a backup. It is a little pricey, but it is worth it to me, and I think the price may come down some as people try them and get used to using them. I just recommend practice, practice, practice. I got my son one for Christmas, and after an hour or so he could start a fire with it better than me, and I've had mine a while. He carries his hunting with him, lights cigarettes with it, and loves it. I will be buying more in the future.I like the fire piston as a survivalist tool. The Piston
This fire starter is well thought through. The theory does in fact work. The problem with many is that they can be difficult to use. Difficult to hold firmly , when I need it I am usually outdoors likely cold etc. That is the beauty of this piston, it is encased in nice wood, easy to get a good grip.
