Never Functioned properly
This recorder ate the tapes. I cleaned the head and rollers and tried another tape. We then reated this careful process until we ruined 7 cassette tapes. We did have insurance which we paid for and were reimbursed. We then purchased Sony digital recorders that were sealed and brand new and we have not had a problem since.

Sony ICD-P620 recorder
I maybe a little bias here because I already have a Sony recorder (none-USB). I bought this because the USB connection to PC and more memory. It is like the old one. Small in size and powerful in features. I use two NiMH AAA batteries. It has four folders to organize your recordings. You can move files from folder to folder, you could append to an existing recording. Alarm, in case you need a reminder. Microphone setting in L or H. Recording quality in HQ/SP/LP. It works fine for human voice recording, including the LP mode - Long Play or the lowest quality. I would say it is about 85~90% of the HQ (high quality). Not as clear in LP mode, but you can make it out easily. I use it to take my personal notes, thoughts, recording a meeting, a telephone conversation (with a help of ... I maybe a little bias here because I already have a Sony recorder (none-USB). I bought this because the USB connection to PC and more memory. It is like the old one. It has the Voice activated recording feature, it only record when there is a sound. I was hoping to double it as a MP3 player. The result was much less than satisfactory, lacking the low and high frequency. I guess this is a human voice recorder, not a music player. I am new to this, maybe when the music files were converted when I move to the recorder and something got chop off? I noticed they are not MP3 files anymore. They are now Codec: TRC. By the way, I believe this is only in mono, or none-stereo.

Class and lecture notes along with digital recording give ultimate capture of material. Download and filing are easily handled with the software. Voice activated can be a space/time saver eliminating editing out lapses. Sony allows me to capture the lecture as well as input the audio to my laptop for the voice recognition to print it out in a word document as it is spoken. The player allows 75% slower to 200% faster playback with repeat feature and search capability. All Windows OS have full band equalization to enhance listening during playback. Relive moments over with loved ones, times of special interest, information gathering, address directions, shopping lists, record your cell phone calls, capture offhand comments, and babys first word. Battery life gives about eight to ten hours of classroom lectures one to three hours each and replacing batteries is easily done quickly. Unit size is ideal and can be discreetly used. Find out if you talk in your sleep, or snore, or what? I use the unit to polish speech presentations, record actual presentations, review of topics and items before and after tests, and to capture counseling sessions with my professors. I recently used the unit to inventory freezer contents for our science labs. It was done quickly and proficiently without disturbing sensitive items being challenged or damaged. I could playback as needed for accurate documentation at my desk. A great tool and easy to use. Own one.

I have a friend that purchased one simular to mine some years ago and he said he loved it. Being in the need for a small reliable digital recorder I purchased one. The recorder is an excellent tool for those who need this type of equipment. A lot of value for a very reasonable price. The company stands behind this product for replacement and or service if needed. This was as important to me as the equipment itself.
