My 4th FMR Audio RNC
I've had a few of these over the years. I now have one of the original RNC's and had one previously in the 90's. These compressors work very well at being discreet. They tighten up the sound without adding noticeable compression. I now have two 500 series RNC 500's to track with. I want tracking compression to keep the levels precise. I've read in the manual that you can do a lot more with them than this, but for me, I like to add character with my Slate plugins, so I'm using this for tracking levels. The really nice mode is mostly what I use. It seems to add some tightness to the sound of anything I put through it. I have the FMR RNLA, which if you want character, that unit will really do character. Reminds me of syrup, it kind of slurs vocals a little, makes them thick. The RNC 500 ... Many times, I've heard about this compressor. Now that I've purchased a 500-series rack, I was lucky enough to find the FMR RNC-500 at Perfect Circuit. It is an amazingly smooth and transparent compressor. Vocals do not sound compressed . . . they sound smoother. Perfect Circuit was very fast in shipping . . . even to Canada. Very happy with this purchase.
