Looks and works great on the boat.
The pylon came packaged very well. Each piece was completely wrapped with foam wrap. I was shocked when I unwrapped the pieces and found what looked like someone had hit it repeatedly with something hard in two places yet there was no marking on the foam wrap. It also had some discoloration at several of the welds that worn't polished out. (see pictures). The parts went together well. It mounted good on my boat, looks great and works great. I would recommend this pylon and it is a decent value compared to others I looked at but I think Origin's quality control prior to packaging for shipping was very poor.The pylon came packaged very well. Nice design but poor welding
Package arrived in a timely manner. Packaging was very well done. I used to teach welding - I would give this project a D minus. Fortunately, I have a TIG welder and can re-weld the joints. I counted at least six areas that had significant pin holes in the weld. For the price, the welding should have been much higher quality. The ripple spacing is way to long ( the distance between each addition of filler metal ). That leads to a weak weld without proper penetration and can be structurally deficient. Maybe that's why they don't recommend side loading. Actually, after looking at all the welds again, I will re-weld the whole thing. Additionally, I am going to weld in some cross bracing so the unit will handle side loads. I intend to pull a tube or two so reinforcing the ... Package arrived in a timely manner.
