Still an easy and successful way to digitize videotape

Despite its decade-plus technology, this digitizing appliance provides very good copies of VHS and VHS-C (with adapter) videotapes to DVD. A computer is not needed. It also accepts composite audio-video from other sources, thus making it more versatile. There is a learning curve to using the product effectively. The right brand and specification DVD blank is needed. I found that the 2-4X rewritable DVDs gave me the best results. Plus, DVDs must first be formatted on this machine.

Not as easy to use as a JVC DVD/VCR. Download the owners manual. Be sure the remote is compatible.

I have owned multiple JVC DVD/VCR Recorders and believe the editing interfaces to be far superior to this Magnavox model. Using the Owners manual, downloaded from the internet, was important to completing recording and finalizing the disc (necessary for the disc to be viewed on other DVD players). I dubbed from a VCR tape and recorded from an on air live show to disc. However, be careful to purchase a compatible remote control if an original is not included. The remote control, advertised on eBay, that I bought makes all processes complicated because the preprogrammed buttons do not coincide with the Magnavox owners manual buttons. It took me three test recordings before I mastered the differences so I could label videos names and finalize the disc. In sum, the quality of the product ...

  • Good features at reasonable price but wish remote was better designed.

This was a refurbished unit and work correctly so far.. But lately the manufacturers seem to be degrading the quality of their units to point of hard failures much sooner than should be the case. Considering I always have mine hooked up to Surge protected feeds I hope this one last more than a couple of years. The repair on these if it more than a simple adjustment isn't worth taking to the shops anymore.. Also getting harder to find units that allow taping for viewing at a later date. Thsi unit does allow that both in DVD and video format. Easy to hookup with clearly labeled connection on the back and 3 right at front for cameras or portable devices. I find that feature a godsend for transfering or just ease of showing digital pictures of video through the unit and having the connection ...

  • Magnavox DVD recorder player VCR combo is a quality product.

The product, although used, performs with the same quality as the same product I already have. I am able to use the remote from the other product with the product just purchased. It records on DVDs and plays them and others, well. As for ease of use, it depends on the technical expertise of the individual.. I am a senior citizen - female at that - and I have that knowledge.

  • Easy basic operation and hook up, produces good copies to CD's or VHS

My first impression was that the unit seemed to be more complicated than it really is. After reading the setup instruction carefully all connections were made and I was making copies of VHS and Mini cam tapes to CD's very easily. The unit does require a separate VHS or CD player connected in line to reproduce the copies. I simply set my Magnavox dual VHS & CD/DVD player on top, connected the two units with RCA plugs, ordered and received a HDMI 6' connector for hook up to the TV. Everything works well and the unit produces a very good CD copy of the original tape and also will record and burn directly from the TV. Of course, the quality depends on the tapes being copied. I have saved a lot of home movies and vacation footage to longer lasting CD's and can now ...
