For anyone who enjoys the sound of some of the best, and most influential, music to come out between 1920-1950, this collection is invaluable. Presenting a variety of styles and sounds, this multi-disc collection is a great place to get an overview of the music of 'rural' America in the early part of the 20th century as it began to expand within the 'mainstream', forever altering the face of contemporary American Music. Some of these original performers are caught at the beginning of their legendary careers, while others are totally unfamiliar to most of us. The songs range from ballads to dancing tunes to novelty songs. The reproduction quality is outstanding; the accompanying booklet is well written and full of fascinating information about these artists who's love of music far surpassed their desire for fame and fortune in an era before 'superstars' and 'Grammy Awards'. But, most important: this is not a "musuem collection" of songs whose only value lies in their historical significance. On the contrary, these tunes kick some serious musical ass; if you listen to this collection and don't have a smile on your face and a tap in your toes . . . it's time to schedule an appointment with your doctor.Read full review
