The battle to defend Azeroth continues in this second expansion pack to Blizzard's best-selling World of WarCraft. The Lich King Arthas, a former paladin, commands the undead armies of the Scourge with the singular purpose of plunging the world of the living into complete and utter chaos. High-level adventurers will explore a new continent, the arctic wasteland of Northrend, to battle Arthas and his lethal legion. Northrend is divided into ten themed zones, each home to unlikely allies, new races, and powerful creatures such as ice trolls, wendigos, flesh giants, proto-dragons, and plague eruptors. As in the Burning Crusade expansion, five-man parties will delve into instanced dungeons to complete quests and leave with new weapons, armor, and other treasures.<br><br>The level cap has increased an additional ten levels, with each class able to learn new spells or abilities during the climb to level 80. A new inscription profession allows well-trained individuals to augment spells and abilities with additional effects. While Wrath of the Lich King includes a 15-man instanced battleground, player-versus-player combat is reintroduced on a global scale in a free-for-all zone available to everyone regardless of server type. Player-controlled siege weapons are also found within this area, for opposing factions to raze entire buildings. For the first time in the series, existing characters can be customized with new hairstyles and even dances. Yet the most notable addition to Wrath of the Lich King is the online role-playing game's first hero class: the death knight. <br><br>To access the death knight class, players must first reach a specific level and complete an elaborate quest chain. The developers view the death knight as primarily a tanking class, one that serves as an alternative to warriors in the same vein as druids or paladins. While death knights do not have the benefit of carrying shields, they have the ability to cast spells based on specific rune types equipped on weapons. In addition to the new hero class, hundreds of new recipes per profession and thousands of new items find their way into the expansion, along with new 25-player raids, heroic dungeons, alternate mounts, and other surprises. Like the Burning Crusade before it, Wrath of the Lich King requires the original World of WarCraft for subscribers to access the new content.

The Fine Print
If you're looking at this, you're probably already a WoW addict (or buying it for someone who is) so I'll leave those aspects out. If you don't know what WoW is yet, sign up for the 10 day free trial. Now on to the fine print: 1) You MUST have the first and second editions (WoW and Burning Crusade) already installed or this will not work. 2) This game does NOT include a free month (nor does Burning Crusade). Blizzard, the publisher, has learned from crack dealers that you give 'em the first one free, and charge for all the rest. 3) Be CERTAIN that what you're buying includes the product key (and that's not the free trial key that may be in the box, so you can share the joy with friends.) Without an unused product key, you're not going to be able to play this expansion. 4) You CAN buy ... If you're looking at this, you're probably already a WoW addict (or buying it for someone who is) so I'll leave those aspects out. The disks have come in handy when things get fouled up or the computer crashes, as it saves a LOT of download time, so they're still worth having/buying. 5) There is also a Special Edition of this (at a higher price) which give you a special (epic?) mount in game play, and extra goodies in the box. Is it worth it? To you it might be. 6) Don't buy this until you're at LEAST Level 40, probably more like 50-60. You'll be unlocking areas you can't get to, places your character/toon can't survive in for more than a minute or two anyway. Don't bother installing it for your friends when they come over, as they'll have their own add-ons, and won't use your machine unless desperate anyway.:) 7) Like the rest of WoW's editions, this is JUST the landscape on which to play. You can't do anything with it unless you continue to pay Blizzard $14.95 a month (slightly less when paid for 3 or more months in advance.) 8) This game is HIGHLY addictive. If you liked it well enough to buy the first expansion, you're already hooked. People have ignored their friends and loved ones, their work, jobs, etc. over this game. Keep it in perspective. It's a very GOOD interactive virtual reality, but it's still JUST A GAME. That said, I'm glad I bought it, addicted as I am. FOR THE HOARDE!!!

It’s been a few months since the second major expansion pack for World of Warcraft hit the shelves and the results have started to settle in so that we can all take a good hard look at what we were given this time around. There have been quite a few different Wrath of the Lich King reviews written thus far, and while most are glowing, many Wrath of the Lich King reviews were a bit rushed. So, here is a review written from a few weeks out with two level 80 characters in tow and a whole lot of perspective in hand. Presentation The first thing to touch on in any Wrath of the Lich King review is the presentation and this thing looks beautiful. Northrend is instantly the best looking part of the game and has been scoured by players around the globe seeking out new things to watch and enjoy. Gameplay The gameplay in Northrend is very familiar – including many features that WoW players everywhere are used to. No Wrath of the Lich King review can honestly give full flying marks here because the game is really just a whole lot of grinding and item hunting all over again. However, if you enjoy WoW, you already know that and accept it. The real surprise here is that the game is so chock full of new content along with the familiar. Siege weapons, flying fights, quests that are fun and engaging and time travel all round out the best content yet in WoW – and there’s a whole heck of a lot of it. Northrend is huge. Depth The depth of the content, as noted in many Wrath of the Lich King reviews, is a mixed bag. The leveling experience is wonderful, taking players from one end of the continent to the other in 35-50 hours of gameplay with zones you can only do on the second run through. A new class, epic storylines, and deep quest lines with progressive instances are all welcome additions, but end-game content is still two months after launch with only 1 major raid and a few one-shot encounters. You’ll be hard pressed to stay busy after you reach level 80 and clear your raids. I don’t expect this will last long, but it is still a bit frustrating after all the buildup. Overall I cannot honestly say anything truly negative in this Wrath of the Lich King review without putting a caveat to explain it. So, we’ll just skip it all and say that Wrath of the Lich King is much better than the Burning Crusade, is full of exciting new content and is extremely satisfying for those who waited for two years to get back into the game. If the next expansion is this good, you can bet WoW’s audience will only get larger.

World of Warcraft is an immense world that you will find yoursel fplaying for hours on end, however I found that this game is only fun -with your friends-. Unless you enjoy slaying monsters and doing quests repetitively alone, you won't find this game fun. However, with a playerbase of just over 12 million, I'm sure you can find plenty of friends as fast as I did within just a few hours of playing. There are several major cities full of colorful people, but beware as there are players who will continually assault you with ... We all had to start somewhere, didn't we? World of Warcraft places you in a position to become anything you want, from a Warrior, priest, shaman, to a rogue, druid (shapeshifter), and paladin. This game is so balanced, so simplified without taking away from the elements, that I warn you to not become so addicted to it so that it affects your actual life! It is that addictive. With friends. Don't have any friends that play? Invite them! Blizzard has an invitation service that'll earn you some neat in-game items, inlcuding a rocket mount! Oh, did I mention how gigantic the world is? It is huge, and you'll never truly explore every nook and cranny, because it'll continually be expanded. Most players won't pay attention to the quest dialogues, but if you do you'll see what an immersive storyline blizzard has crafted from their singleplayer games into World of Warcraft. Wrath of the Lich King brings the latest and greatest to the world, and you should be a part of it. Be on the look out for the next update, Cataclysm, that will change the world as you know it. Many maps will be changed, with an entire new skills and talents system update. Even if you're not sure about World of Warcraft, you can try a free 10 day trial on blizzard's website. I was, admittedly, bored as first.. but as soon as I got my buddies in on it we were playing for hours! So, c'mon, grab a friend, and enter the world of.. Warcraft.

A great expansion.
Got this last year as an early Christmas gift and I was not disappointed. The new quests and dungeons are mostly well designed that give causal players ample opportunities to acquire decent items in relatively short periods. Compare with the last expansion, the new dungeons are relatively short but still provide good challenges for both causal and hardcore players, and the "heroic" feature of raid also offers varieties to both hardcore and causal players as they get to choose to do either a quick and easy run or a long and challenging raid. Overall I think Blizzard outdone itself in this expansion as it addresses some of the complaints players had with the last one. If you have the time and cash I highly recommend you to add this set to your WoW.Got this last year as an early Christmas gift and I was not disappointed. The recently released second expansion pack doesn't boast as many back-of-the-box bullet points as its predecessor, and it doesn't offer anything for new players, but if you're still playing WOW or you're looking for an excuse to ... The most significant exception to this rule would have been the new inscription-crafting profession, but that ended up being patched in shortly before the expansion's release alongside new talents for every character class in the game, an Xbox Live-style achievements system, barbershops, an extremely useful in-game calendar, and numerous user-interface improvements. There's new content for low-level players, but you don't need the expansion pack to get it.
