Good compass, could be a better mount
This compass itself would be a 5. The mount derates it to a 4. This is a nice compact compas that fits nicely on the dash of my Kia Spectra. Seems it would fit most cars due to its size. The problem with the mount is that it requires either a mechanical modification or a few layers of thick 2 sided adhesive tape to mount it. I tired Velcro squares, but my Velcro did not stick to the dash. First I found a position where car electronics and the speakers did not interfere with the compass. Then I used my pocket transit to calibrate it. Outside it was smack on. Inside the car N was off about 7 - 8 degrees. Not much for a reference, but I wanted to calibrate it. I adjusted it with the included tool to match the pocket transit. Drove around and each place I stopped I compared it to ... This compass itself would be a 5. The mount derates it to a 4. To mount this I cleaned the bottom of the compass and the area of the dash with alcohol and let them dry. Then applied the tape to the compass mount, removed the protective backing and placed it into the position I wanted on the top of the dash. Works really fine and is much easier to read than the small ones I previously used. I like that it has the degrees also instead of just the N-S-E-W points and maybe a minor point or 2 like the cheap compasses. So far it has survived the hot Florida sun.
