I have used the 530 HCX for a number of years. I absolutely love it. I was VERY disappointed when Garmin went to the touchscreen. The Touchscreen is HORRIBLE for use in Western Wa for hunting. The 530 has a FAST startup time, is lightweight, and the expandable memory slot is one of the best features. Get a 530 hcx before any other garmin!

When I received the Garmin 530, I started to charge the battery. Within minutes, the battery started to get hot. I took the Garmin with me on a hike. It did not show the map I have used before in any detail. I new better than to purchase a device as out of date as this one was! But, live and learn!

I was a bit sceptical before I purchased the Garmin Rino 530HCx due to the price but all that had changed when I started to use the unit, its very sturdily built and is easy to use, the one accessory I would definitely recommend is the case (P/N#: 010-10676-00) for that extra bit of protection. The 2-way radio function is very clear with absolutely no distortion or interference of any kind, the radio also has a function of sending short messages to each other in the group and displaying users GPS positions on screen, there is also a vibration alert system built in to the radios for silent alerts and PTT events which are all user configurable. The GPS system of this unit is incredibly sensitive, I managed to get a signal inside a house on the ground floor with 2 floors above me (3/5 bars) during a power up sequence, the Rino 530HCx accepts MicroSD/Transflash cards, it works with TOPO and Road maps perfectly, the only thing that would make this product even better would be if Garmin allowed for user created maps to work on their unit or a utility to create them from whatever sources available. Overall I'm very satisfied with this unit and would definitely recommend it to others.Read full review
This gets signal quickly and keeps it in rugged forested terrain.. I use it for trail riding, hunting, and mounted search and rescue. The ability to poll other rino users locations is handy when hunting and exceptionally useful in search and rescue. It will use batteries up, but lithium batteries last and last with it, I keep a spare lithium back, and also carry the lithium AA batteries for a AA battery back for it as backup on rescue operations. The color screen is great, and the ability to download and keep tracks on the computer is useful for personal use, and great for MSAR records and review. An excellent product that does as advertised.
This is a MUST HAVE for anyone that ventures out into the outdoors off the beaten path. I purchased this product from a vender on e-bay, who went above and beyond the norm. for seller requirements (made special trip to P.O. to ship over-night so I could have for hunting trip).I have had and used other hand-held GPS units, but in my opinion, NONE COMPARE to this one. The instant locator feature on this model, along with the color screen came in very handy in low light conditions in the woods of Colorado. I even talked and got exact location of hunting partner over 7 miles away !!! This GPS led me straight to him..took me over an hour of walking through heavy brush and timber to get to him. No dout in my mind I could not have found him without it. I can sum it up by saying, if I was to loose this GPS, I would IMMEDIATELY purchase the exact same unit again.
