The Onkyo TX SR605 7.1 Channel 210 Watt Receiver is your go-to option for high-end audio and video performance features and connection and operational flexibility, all at an affordable price. The TX-SR605 is rated at 90 watts per channel into 8 ohms via 7 internal high-current Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) amplifiers. The amplifier frequency can handle signals from almost any source, including SACD, DVD-Audio, DVD, and Blu-ray. Color-coded wiring makes setup simple and quick. The receiver has 4 assignable digital audio inputs (including 2 coaxial and 2 optical), analog stereo connections for CD players and recorders, and a subwoofer preamplifier output. It also features a set of 5.1 channel audio inputs for 5.1 channel DVD-audio, SACD, or Blu-ray analog audio connection options. The Onkyo TX SR605 7.1 Channel 210 Watt Receiver can also access multi-channel audio by way of its HDMI connections and has a set of preamp outputs for multi-zone operation. The Onkyo TX SR605 7.1 Channel 210 Watt Receiver features extensive surround sound decoding and processing options. These include STA 94/24, Dolby Digital EX, and DTS-ES. It can also decode DTS-HD, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby TrueHD soundtracks commonly found on Blu-ray discs via its HDMI compatible inputs. Another handy audio feature is the Onkyo TX SR605 7.1 Channel 210 Watt Receiver’s ability to be used in full 7.1 channel configuration or in 5.1 channel configuration in the main home theater room with simultaneous two-channel operation in another using the Zone 2 preamp outputs. This way, two different home theaters show different programming and still enjoy excellent audio. The technologically mystified will appreciate the automated speaker setup function called Audyssey 2EQ. Simply connect the provided microphone and follow the manual’s directions, and the Audyssey 2EQ uses test tones to determine the ideal speaker levels based on the speaker placement in relation to the acoustical properties of the room. Pick up an optional iPod cradle, and connect the Onkyo TX SR605 7.1 Channel 210 Watt Receiver with your iPod or iPhone for added versatility. As far as video inputs and outputs, the Onkyo TX SR605 7.1 Channel 210 Watt Receiver offers two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output as well as three HD component inputs and one output. Other connections include four composite and S-video inputs, two additional analog audio-only inputs, and a front panel A/V input for connection of another compatible source. The Onkyo TX SR605 7.1 Channel 210 Watt Receiver also features a VCR/DVR/DVD recorder connection loop. The TX-SR605 can convert all standard definition analog video input signals to component or HDMI video outputs. Other features of the Onkyo TX SR605 7.1 Channel 210 Watt Receiver include a fluorescent front panel display, adjustable crossover on the subwoofer low-frequency effects pre-out channel, a five-band graphic equalizer, an AM/FM radio, SiriusXM receiver capabilities, and a handy remote.

Excellent receiver that needs space around it to disapate the heat
This is a feature packed receiver with excellent sound quality. My only complaint is that it runs hot. I measured a constant 130F near the HDMI board in the back. The amplifier heat sink ran from 115F to 125F under normal use. Keep this thing in a well ventilated space. I have kept mine in use for more than 24 hours straight a few times with no problems.

Compliments - the sound balance mic is cool, receiver drives decent power, has a ton of different audio formats accepted/decoded, sound field is pretty egg-normous with some big speakers. Giant, flawless, theater-like sound from blu-ray uncompressed audio. Also, the 2channel to surround expansion decoding makes your 2 channel audio awesomely immersive (play mariokart64 and you'll hear what I mean) Gripes - for some reason the front Composite video input (the little yellow one) passes N64 video straight thru HDMI with no problems, but can't pass NES video straight through, it blinks. I suspect the NES pushes a less strong video signal that doesn't get interpreted cleanly by whatever faroujidia graphics chip decoder thinger is inside converting the video for HDMI output. Also, I'm not ... Also, I'm not sure why I thought this, but I remember being under the impression that it upscales 480i signals upto 720p. As far as I can tell, after reading the whole manual, this is not the case. It does upscale to 480p, but that's not so impressive. Also, it could definitely use a few more HDMI inputs, as 2 is not enough. fantastic budget receiver if you pay less than $350.00. Might be worth checking out other options if you don't want to spend more money, or you want more HDMI inputs.

Great amp for the price
First HDMI pass through AV Receiver I've bought, wanted to simplify the cabling requirements. Works great in that capacity, have connected a PS3 and a HD DTV receiver to it and a single HDMI cable from the Onkyo to my 42" 1080p LCD, leaving one HMDI input free on the TV. Sound is awesome, tons of DSP sound fields, still trying to optimize settings for my room :) Also Audyssey set up for speaker level is very nice and connections via HDMI are as simple as can be. My only caveat is that the receiver needs to be on to pass through signals via HDMI; i.e. you cannot watch DTV, play a game, or watch a movie with the amp off or in standby, it doesn't pass the signal. I may actually swap back and use both HMDI inputs from the PS3 and DTV box to the TV and a TOSLINK from the TV to the amp so ... All the receiver I need!
I am glad I bought this model. I like the fact that I can hook up everything with HDMI cables. I use a Logitech Advance One remote, a 56" Samsung HDTV ans a Panasonic DVD and now I don't have an issue switching from one input source to another. The Samsung wouldn't switch right back when going from DVD to TV, now it does since everything runs through the receiver. I bought the silver model to go with my cable box and DVD, not many companys offer this color. I think it's easier to read the labels on the receiver when the lighting is low. There are LOTS of adjustments that can be made with this receiver. The manual is nearly 100 pages. There are a bunch of mode settings but the manual doesn't describe very well which one does what. Don't be put off by this. If I can set it up you can set this up. I wasn't too impressed with the speaker set up using the Audessy microphone so I did it manually and I think I got better results. I'm using Infinity speakers for my front, center and sub-woofer and Definitive Technology rear surround speakers, this reciever has all the power I need. Another thing I'm not fond of is the volume control. It says in the manual 'fine tuning' of the volume is availabe. what this means is that you have to hold the volume button on the remote forever to turn the volume up or down. That's not a big thing but it's annoying. All and all it's an impressive receiver. Probably has way more bells and whistles than I need, but hey, that's not a bad thing...

Was worried at first with no sound, but after adjusting everything in the menu, WOW. Hope the house can take this much incredible sound. Menu is a little intimidating, but that's just today's technology. Tons of options. Replaced my Onkyo 5.1 300 watt receiver with this 7.1 450 watt beast. I cannot imagine any better sound.... PERIOD!
