This camcorder is convenient and powerful. The LCD screen is big and clear and the disc records easily and quickly. I especially like how you have an archive on the DVD that is very durable. Much better than a hard drive camcorder.

Great Camcorder: Fast, clear, quiet, and 16:9
I love the 16:9 ratio, and the burn straight to dvd feature. The 5.1 stereo surround sound, is well not really all that great. It works but it is more like 5.1 around sound. If you are recording in close quarters, then the directional mics, pick up sound in all directions....despite where the audio may be coming from. The recording is quite and fast. The use of a dvd rm will allow you edit in camera too. The best handycam out to date, since the HD models are not really consumer friendly. When trying to decide which DCR DVD handycam to buy, I was overwhelmed by the choices. I went into one of our local stores and asked the sales person for some information and he was quite helpful. Then I read a review about the Sony 505 and I was sold! This handycam is the easiest electronic tool I've ever used! We had it up in running as soon as we charged the battery. My son was taking digital pictures within minutes of picking it up, and the same was true when I tried it.(and that was without reading the manual!) The photos are wonderful and the videos are super too. More importantly is the ease that you can literally alternate between the two functions. Now all I need to do is take the time to read the manual to find out everything this gem can do! The only problem I can say ... If you are looking for a wonderful Handycam that is small and compact (like carrying a small purse...so you WILL take it with you and USE it!), this is the unit for you. The clarity, the ease and the compact size make it a WINNER! Upgrade from a lesser unit. You'll be so glad you did!

Of course, the recording quality is excellent as well, but one of the reasons I spent a little more money was to get the bargain of two functions in one device. This baby delivered and I would recommend this camcorder to anyone who would benefit from having the ability to directly record and burn to mini-dvd's as well as take still pictures and save them to a memory stick or download them via USB to your computer directly. This device is very simple to use and I've only opened the manual once so far. : )This camcorder takes great pictures. That's right, I said it takes great pictures.
