Easy to use and I really like the low lux capability. I hog hunt at night, and like to take nature photos at night as well so I already had several IR flashlights and other night optics. I have found that using an IR light in the 850nm range greatly extends this cameras night vision video taking capability. I have already taken some nice video footages in total darkness out to some 100 yards using this setup.

This is the best mini camcorder on the market. It's small size is easy to carry, yet it still has a large 3.5" LCD display. Not many camcorders this small have that large of an LCD screen. In addition to MiniDV digital recording with a great picture and sound, the camera also has a built in 1.55 megapixel digital still camera with a pop up flash for shots in darker lite areas. I have never had a bad video or still picture the entire 5 or 6 years or so that I have owned this camcorder. For those who need it the camera also boasts night vision and super night vision for video in complete darkness! As well as a host of many other features. You may find a camcorder almost as good as this one, but you won't find one better!
This is "STILL" one of Sony's best single CCD camcorders made. I have owned a couple of these, and sold my last one a few months ago. I'll be looking for another one for some obvious reasons. Not for the stills, but for the excellent video it takes. I've recently bought some so called higher end cameras, and they have way more audio noise (zoom motor, auto focus motor, buzz in real quiet scenes) picked up by the mic then the TRV30's I've owned. It makes great video, and still has buttons, rather then the touch screen that manufactures want you to think are better. Ever had one go bad? You're stuck trying to navigate the menu and options until it's fixed. OK stills, and the flash works well. Accessories are cheap to buy, and so are the tapes. Tapes are still the preferred choice of the pros.Read full review
I now have 2 of these thanks to ebay. I bought one 5 years ago and have made some decent videos with this. I run the firewire into my PC and then edit with Sony Vegas. Shortly after this camera they started to add a lot of extra features and changed the design. The newer models put a lot of controls on a touch screen. This was not a good move IMHO because then you have to have the LCD open all the time and you get finger prints on your screen. DUMB! This model has the better design. The Mini-DV format is still better than the DVD recordables when your goal is to edit on your computer and then author your own DVD. and this camera works well in all lighting conditions. My first camera is still working great except the flash no longer works. The one I just got off e-bay was like new and all features work perfectly. The large LCD screen is great. I do not use the viewfinder unless it is on a tripod. This camera had a good pro-sumer reputation when I bought it and I think it is well deserved. I have produced DVDs with this camera and already paid for it with the revenue. With some good lighting the average viewer can not see much difference between this one CCD and many of the 3 CCD camcorders. I love it. I am going to get a wide angle adapter and cant wait to shoot some two camera stuff. I can hold off from buying an HD camcorder for awhile longer so prices can come down and formats can mature. I love this camera!Read full review
