For example, when you only have vague idea of the address of your destination, a Magellan would provide adequate context for you to figure out where you need to go. One time, I had forgotten the street number and exact spelling of the street name. I simply type in whatever part that I could remember and the Magellan gave me a list of the road names to choose from. Eventually it took me to where I need to go. Based on that experience, I formulated a test for evaluating any new GPS unit I buy. All the Garmin I tried failed that test. A TomTom unit I tried passed that test. Another marvel of a Magellan GPS unit is its bell sound signaling the turning point or highway exiting point. This is extremely useful in the complicated highways like in New Jersey, I never miss a turn with a Magellan GPS, but often take a too-early turn with other brands. The spoken language of Roadmate is clearest of all the GPS units over Garmin or TomTom. When I used Garmin nuvi 680, it would mispronounce "state road 1" as "stage road 1" I also like the seamless integration of the traffic information into the routing. It only provides the traffic incidents related to your route, or if you do not have a route, it provides only the incidents within 15-mile radius of the current location. It does not provide too much traffic information to burden you unnecessarily. With Roadmate 1475T, the traffic is free forever. In contract, with a Garmin nuvi 680, I had to pay $19/year for traffic subscription! And in nuvi 680, the traffic information is completely separate from the routing, and I have to make decision of which traffic incidents are relevant to my trip. Other strong points of Roadmate 1475T are its large screen size, clear view of the screen, and its customization of the screen menu to fit anyone's taste. However, Magellan does share some weakness of all the GPS units. For example, the less perfect map accuracy. There are occasions that a Magellan would say the destination is on the left side of the road when actually the destination is on the right side, and so do all Garmin or TomTom units. One time, my Garmin nuvi GPS attempted to direct me to drive into the middle of a lake! Another weakness of any GPS is the confusion of which direction (left or right) to go at the beginning of the route, and the efficiency within a city. My suggestion of using any GPS is to also print a routing map from Yahoo Maps or Google Maps before you go on a trip so that you have some idea of the routing. Great GPS and very cost effective!
I bought this model to replace an older Magellan Maestro 4250. I have used Garmin and Tom Tom but like Magellan the best. I only replaced the 4250 because the map update was old and it was more feasible to purchase a new model. Regarding the 1475T, first I'll note the positives - I received the newest 2011 map update free. I've read where you have to call Magellan and fax them the receipt but I was already registered online and the unit updated automatically - I did not even have to pick up the phone. The unit quickly recalculates if you miss a turn. The display is nice and clear as well as the voice and tones. I like that it has free lifetime traffic. I've read reviews where there are advertisements all the time but I haven't seen one yet (maybe this was corrected with Magellan). ... I bought this model to replace an older Magellan Maestro 4250. Now for the negatives - sometimes you have to push the touchscreen a few times before it takes although I noticed this with my other Magellan as well. Sometimes the "one touch" feature requires more than 1 touch - if I push the work button, I expect it to start routing but sometimes a "go" button comes up and you have to push that as well. Maybe I am doing something wrong though as far as setting the "one touch" buttons. The traffic feature sometimes doesn't work and will give you a web address and state that traffic may not be available in the area. I never had this problem with my older Magellan. Its not that big of a deal for me though. I like the older windshield mount better than the one that came with this unit. There is a small piece of plastic where you have to slide the unit down to put it on the mount. It seems like it could break after a few months in the sun if you are in a hurry and try to take the unit off. The last thing which isn't really a negative but I wish this unit had the voice control my old Magellan had as it is nice to say "home" and it would start navigating without me having to reach over and touch the unit. Overall, I would definitely recommend this product. I love it and I actually purchased a refurbished one that was cheaper than the map update for my old unit. It even looked brand new and no scratches at all. Plus, as I mentioned before, it still qualified for the 30-day free map update!

Very good road companion for the money! Easy to read and follow!
i really enjoy having this GPS with me on the road. I really have no complaints except that at times it takes a minute to get oriented as to where I am before it can tell me how to get where I want to go. Hence, on occasion, I am already going in the wrong direction before it speaks. But that doesn't happen often, and the graphics are large and clear, the speaker has a clear and succinct voice, and in general, i have to say it is a very good road companion. I think you will agree!i really enjoy having this GPS with me on the road. I really like this GPS. I have had a GPS for dummies which was great for starters. I've had a Garmin which will take you to Alaska if you only wanted to get to a place 30 mins away, I've had a Tom Tom which was pretty cool but this by far has been the best. It makes a selective alert when you have to turn. It lets you know which lane you have to be in. Especially when on the expressway. It's option to be loud is superb because you won't miss a beat. You can totally customize it to the way you want it and it's easy to navigate with. When you make a wrong turn it doesnt even say route re-calculating (which is nerve-wrecking). It automatically puts you on track! I absolutely love it. Just make sure your map is updated because the name of bridges do change and sometimes it has the older name. ... I really like this GPS.
