Good for touch ups. I tried to, more or less, bring a small pistol back to life and it worked ok-but-in the end I decided to go for air dry Cerakote which is gorgeous !

Works exceptionally well. Surprised me actually.
First time using blueing so this is not a comparative review. Used this product to darken grind areas on mild steel and on mild steel after removing zinc plating. Works GREAT! Darkens metal pretty much instantly. This small bottle will last a long time as you don't need to use very much for it to work.

Unfortunately the final results of any cold blues differ depending on the specific type of steel used. Van's works great ... but in my experience give a less "black" and more of a dark "charcoal" look to most steels more typical of the vintage firearms and damascus barrels and knifes. That is why I have 3 different cold blues I experiment with before choosing.

Great Product! Acquired a gun that had significant rust. After carefully removing the rust, I applied Van's and the bluing that occurred blended very nicely with the original bluing. I would highly recommend it!
