    Practice makes Perfect

    Having water tank at the front has many advantages like placing it on a counter under a cupboard and not having to move the machine to refill from behind. There is a definite technique that one has to learn to get excellent coffee with good crema, but once mastered this machine makes excellent coffee. It is fairly easy to clean and flushing every few years with white vinegar helps. This is my second machine in 10 years and l consider it very durable. Unfortunately it has been discontinued.

    Excellent budget machine with a couple small flaws

    I did extensive research on machines before finally settling on this Breville. Look wise its a beautiful machine, I love the brushed metal look and the aqua colored tank looks great. After some practice with adjusting the proper grind and tamping at right level, i was able to pull very good shots with this machine using the pressurized filters. Reading another espresso message board advised to call breville and order unpressurized filters for better shots. (pressurized filters are made so that novice espresso makers get good crema, but its mostly fake crema.) After receiving the unpressurized baskets my shots went from good, to very, very good with no other adjustments. I love the shots on this machine. The steam wand comes with a froth enhancer that i immediately removed from the wand. ...

    So pretty ... and works well too.

    I think Breville makes nice stuff. I have a more expensive machine that work great, but this one is just so pretty ... so I bought it. It is built well, has nice features, and runs quietly. Crema is OK but the machine uses a pressurized portafilter so the crema is "fake". The flavor is very good, even if you load and pack the portafilter poorly. I tend to use this machine more than my more expensive one. Bravo Breville.

    missing info

    After having gone through three other espresso machine all with game breaker complaints (mostly about wet grounds)so I bid and won the Breville bes400 and at first it delivered weak unacceptable coffee......no crema. And when I was ready to send the machine back I discovered that by turning the machine on and opening the frother wide open allowing the heating element to get up to the right operating temperature. It now delivers an acceptable coffee but I still use my stove top method of heating the milk.......the Breville delivers luke warm foam.......lots of it but not hot enough.

    Breville BES400 Espresso Machine

    My 4th espresso machine, each one costs a little more and out-performs its predecessor. Makes same noise as DeLonghi EC 702 machine but holds more water takes a bigger cup and holds more coffee. Good crema and steam. Takes a small amount of space on counter for such a good machine. Naturally, you can spend thousands on an espresso machines but at this price point this seems to be the best!
