I knew this movie was not the usual "Denzel" model. But, I am collecting for my library. I thought this movie/dvd was 'brand new', it is not. No wrapping at all and the worst part the dvd was sticky. I did not handle it nor will I. Thanks

30 years after the flash, a man named Eli walks across the desert. He is dressed in tattered rags and well-worn shoes. Above him, bomb-blasted freeways dead end in piles of rubble and exposed girders. A dying car battery powers the last iPod on Earth, the final notes of music in a world devoid of life or color. In his bag, beside the shotgun and long-blade, is a book. The only book that matters. And in a lawless town of mindless marauders, a civilized man named Carnegie has been searching for that book for a long, long time. The book is the Bible the last one since the war saw them all hunted down and burned. ELI is sheparding the Bible across America with divine intervention to deliver him to its purpose. He's not much of a talker and the biggest challenge in the role is to maintain a quiet and believable presence throughout this movie (-: (so-so) Most of the dialogue belongs to Carnegie. He is a more complex character than Eli, with occasional notes of sympathy and suggesting a past that might render him more than just a one-view villain. There's violence, story line both PROFOUND, yet simple. PAY ATTENTION! There's a twist at the end that will blow your mind! Get the movie on ebay for $10 and under, you got a deal! DTD

The Earth's ozone layer was apparently severely damaged resulting in many being severely burned by UV rays and/or blinded. Those who survived now must be constantly vigilant of other survivors who have turned to cannibalism for survival. Food and water are imperatives. It was said that the entire war was fought because of those who revolted against the teachings of the Bible, and afterward, all copies were burned. Now the world lives in stark hopelessness and apathy. Eli (Denzel Washington)is what is known as a traveler or a walker. For thirty years he has been walking towards the West coast. Entering a crumbling ruin of a town run by an educated man, Carnegie (Gary Oldman), Eli enters a bar to barter for water. Here he meets Solara (Mila Kunis) who lives and works there. Her mother, Claudia, is blind and is Carnegie's concubine. Carnegie grew up around there before the war and knew where several underground springs were located. He has biker gangs and other road gangs constantly searching for a Bible. He is sure that if he can get one, he can settle more cities and bring hope back to people and restore humanity - but with him in charge! As Eli is discussing his need with the barman, he is approached by thugs who earlier that day, Eli witnessed killing innocent travelers. Always soft spoken and courteous, Eli tells them that he isn't looking for trouble. He is attacked and he kills all eleven of them. Carnegie sees this and has Eli brought to him. Seeing that Eli is an educated man, Carnegie asks him to stay and work for him. Eli refuses but can see that no is not an option. Sending Solara to seduce him, she finds out that he has a holy book and now Carnegie wants it with or without his permission. In a confrontation on the street, Eli kills about nine of Carnegie's men and wounds Carnegie. Solara follows Eli in an attempt to get away, but is attacked by cannibals and Eli comes to her rescue. In search of water, they stop at a house and find an old man and woman who act with hospitality, but they evidently are also cannibals. These people all have very bad nervous shakes from eating human flesh. Carnegie's men arrive and Eli is shot and forced to give up the book. He is left for dead. Solara is taken back with them, but causes a wreck that results in the deaths of all but Carnegie and one other. She goes back for Eli, and finding him, they continue west, ultimately reaching the coast and making it to Alcatraz Island. Here they are met by a group organizing the rebirth of society. Eli, from decades of reading it, is able to dictate the entire King James Bible. It is printed in quantity and humanity can now be resurrected. Ely died from his wounds, and Solara is heading home. Carnegie's utopia has crumbled and he is dying from infection in his wounds. When the lock is opened on the Bible, he finds that it is printed in braille. He begs Claudia to read it, but she refused.

Unique. Special. Worth watching!
This movie is not at all what I expected. It is thrilling, exciting, and a huge surprise! The acting is really good, the story-line is unique, and I don't want to give away the ending, but it is so incredibly special that I actually watched it twice, which is something I rarely do unless the movies are super good. Of course the movie did have alot of 'bang bang, crash crash' that was over-done in the usual American way, but it wasn't so much as to ruin the movie, and it did a great job in keeping me entertained through-out without being bored or unsatisfied, but the exact opposite. It was enticing and very much worth the watch, plus it emotinally invests you in the story-line and you find yourself talking about it and it can hold conversation alive for quite some ...
