Being a longtime fan of the 2K series I finally decided to “upgrade” from my copy of ESPN 2K5 (Xbox, and a game I still fnd to be football video game perfection) to something with more recent rosters, not to mention my favorite player of all time appears on the cover and in the only uniform he should have ever worn to boot. Anyways, I have been a longtime basher of the Madden series, I find it to be more arcadey then Sim... akin to an advanced form of the Blitz series. But I decided to give it a shot on the Wii, I am pleasantly surprised with the gameplay aspect of this game so far. The Wii-motion controls really are a lot of fun, the “Call Your Shots” (where you draw way-points on screen for any receiver you wish on passing plays) addition is a major advancement in the way these games are played, and will open the door for some really neat options on the both sides of the ball in future iterations of the series... at least on the Wii. The graphics are about as good as you would find on an Xbox machine, maybe a little better. Players are detailed pretty well and the collision detection is nice. But they do not hold a candle to what you will find on PS3 or the 360. However if you bought a Wii, then you were not as interested in revolutionary graphics as you were in evolutionary gameplay. I have played the 360 and the Wii version of Madden 09, they are both very arcade like when compared to the 2K5 series. But the Wii versions added controls make it a fun and fresh experience, whereas the 360 version seems to be “just another version of Madden with better visuals”. The franchise seems pretty straight forward, which is how I like it, after all who wants to negotiate the price of a hotdog at the stadium? Anyways, don’t let the kiddy packaging drive you away, this is a fun and intuitive football experience. Give it a shot.Read full review
Gears of War is a good videogame. The immersion is pretty intense, however, I'm more of a 1st person shooter as apposed to 3rd person. One thing (probably the only thing) I find wishy-washy is the jiggly camera effect. I feel like I'm stumbling drunk when the camera starts to flip-flop like a fish out of water. I guess I'm overexaggerating somewhat, but if there's a T.V. show where the camera dances a jig (think 24 on Fox or just about any new action show) I won't watch it. I almost get seasick! Cloverfield pulled it off because the guy was carrying around his video recorder. Anyway, blah, blah, blah, blah. Overall the game is neat. There is plenty of eye candy in the graphics and the story line is awesome. I got my copy brand new on e-bay for $30 S&H included. If you can grab it for that, I'd say it was money well spent. Happy gaming!Read full review
This years Madden for the Wii console, is one of the best football games of all time! I used to be that guy that was addicted to ESPN NFL 2K5. But I decided to stop living in the past, and I bought a Wii and Madden 09. This game has many exciting things to offer like; party mode, 5 on 5 mode, new mini-games, franchise mode, superstar mode, and a great online mode! I am addicted to the game play that the Wii has to offer. It puts you right into your favorite players shoes with its motion capture. I was playing with the Green Bay Packers (my home town team) and I called a short passing play. But with the new call your shot mode (which allows you to customize your recievers routes) I saw a flaw with Greg Jennings route. So I called a corner slant and added a little shake and bake to the route, and what do you know, Greg Jennings was open for a touchdown! But its not only the call your shot option, but it is also the running game. You have complete control of juking and breaking tackles. Thats not all though, even kicking is fun with these controls. You will enjoy this game if you purchase it, and it will be fun for years to come! The only thing that needs work is the superstar mode and the online friendly quit delema. But all in all this is a great game!Read full review
I never write reviews because, as someone wrote in a review of MLB 2K9, they are typically feedback for or about the seller. Bought the game last week, played it over the weekend and here's my summery: If you are a NFL purest, DO NOT waste your money. I haven't gotten too deeply into franchise mode, but then again I wasn't impressed enough to even try. There is VERY limited roster editing capabilities (player info, ratings, height/weight). For anyone who's played the game on the playstation 2, as I have, you know that you can put in your own players or create a team. Can't do that here. The graphics are good, but VERY cartoony. The "Superstar" game mode isn't awful, but it's not good either. I am fully intent on purchasing Madden NFL 10 for PS2 when it comes out later this summer due to how unimpressed I am with this version, and after seeing the previews for Madden 10 on Wii. If I thought this one was cartoony, the next one is worse. I may reconsider when EA comes out with the 2011 game and if they fix these problems. This is a good game for young kids who want to play football, but for those of us that are college football purests...it's a waste of money.Read full review
This game makes use of the Wii’s main feature, the motion control. Fun game with lots of replay value for football fans.
