About this product

Product Information

The Madden series makes its second appearance on Wii with a retooled control scheme designed to draw new players into the gridiron action. Dubbed "Family Play," the controls are all mapped to the Wii Remote with the majority of advanced maneuvers automatically handled by the computer AI. Grizzled Madden vets can still choose the "Advanced" option, which supports the Nunchuk for analog-based moves and new motion-sensitive audibles, and the Wii Remote for gesture-based actions such as throwing or catching the ball. Another user-friendly feature is the option to instantly see your team's superstar athletes as well as key match-ups to exploit. This "read and react" system displays various icons over an athlete's head, so those not ordinarily familiar with a particular team can quickly see who has the strongest arm, the quickest feet, the stickiest hands, and so forth.

The Wii Remote can also be used like a telestrator for players to draw Xs, Os, and arrows directly on the screen to break down key plays for curious onlookers or to simply humiliate your opponent after a key sack or touchdown. Madden NFL 08 also introduces an exclusive "Party Mode" supporting up to four players, where friends and family members can take a break from the on-field action and participate in NFL trivia challenges and a total of 22 football-related mini-games. Online support is also included for the first time on Wii. While only head-to-head exhibition matches are available over the network, players will be able to participate in their choice of ranked or unranked games, view leaderboards, chat with friends via EA Messenger, store or share roster updates and profiles in the EA Locker, and even receive actual NFL scores with the live sports ticker. Several popular game modes from Madden NFL 07 return for this version, including both the Superstar Mode and Franchise Mode.

Terrible in the best way possible

The models are janky, the graphics are ugly, and the animations are goofy, but that’s what makes these games enjoyable! It’s also a fun little football time capsule.

  • Great game

The controls are what really sell this game. It's fun actually throwing a stiff arm or a big hit out there with the Wiimote. I love playing online. I have not had any problems doing so. The Hall of Fame mode is great, although I wish you had a little more control. Of course, when you are only drafted as one player, that makes sense that that's the only one you can control when on the field. I had to go through three sellers on Ebay before I finally got a working version of the game, and it was well worth the wait. The graphics are great for the system and it is really fun play. I would recommend this game to any Madden fan whether they are All Madden or a Rookie. The multiplayer and Party Modes are also great. Play the game and you'll see how fun it is.

  • Madden 2008 for the Nintendo Wii - Average, but fun

I have played the Madden franchise since it's Sega Genesis days, but this year is the first time I have bought the Wii version. I didn't really know what to expect from a control standpoint, and was a little worried to go from the standard joypad control to the Wii control. My worries about that were put to rest very early, as the Wii controls are actually very natural and pretty easy to pick up. The controls make use of the nunchuck controller, but you can also play it with only the Wii remote if you like (with less controlling of course). The graphics are a little limited and plain, but they aren't bad at all. However, I have always been more about gameplay than graphics . . . so if graphics are a huge deal to you then I'd suggest seeing a demo of the game before ...

  • Pretty good game

This is the first football game that I have purchased for any gaming platform, but I wanted to give it a shot with my new Wii. Graphics are great and the sound effects are very realistic. I also like the commentary by Madden and company. I'm still trying to get the hang of the controls. The controls for offensive movements are pretty easy to understand, but I'm having a little trouble on defense. Probably just need to play it a bit more to pick up on everything. Overall I would give it an A.

  • ...and you thought you KNEW Madden...

While not a perfect game, Maddens first attempt at a Wii game is a pretty solid addition to the Madden family. GAMEPLAY This is one aspect of the game that you won't recognize at all if you grew up on Madden Football. Using both the remote and the nunchuk, the ball is actually thrown by using your wiimote and making a throwing motion while selecting the button of the receiver you want. No more hitting a direction and the pass button. You control where the QB runs with your nunchuck using the joystick. Most of the moves to avoid tackles are also done through movements in the controllers. While they have not quite perfected all of this, it adds a really exciting element to the game! GRAPHICS Good graphics, not great. Not up to the level of a PS3 or 360, but its also limited by ...
