I first discovered this camera after borrowing it from a friend. The more I use it, the more I love it! I have a small video production business and have since acquired 3 of these cameras. It allows me to have multiple camera angles for different events. It's lightweight, very easy to use, and the quality is fantastic! Out of all of the MiniDV camcorders I've used, this model is by far the best! It has so many remarkable features, including a reversible A/V jack allowing me to either hook my old VCR to it to capture old family memories onto my computer for editing, or using it as a VCR to record live TV or other events to for safe-keeping. I purchased a newer hard drive camcorder since the times were changing, but it didn't compare to the quality of the digital tapes on this unit! It gives you the option to switch to 16:9 for widescreen TVs. Remarkable little unit! As long as they make MiniDv cassettes, I would recommend using this unit. The tapes are durable enough for lots of reuse too!Read full review
This is my second DCR-TRV33. I am a semi-professional videographer. The first was purchased 5 1/2 years ago from Best Buy for $900 with extra batts and a four year warranty. I have brought it to India, Greece and all over the USA. Initially, I was going to buy a Canon, but the Zeiss lens won me over. I bought the second one because I damaged the LCD display of my original. The camera has been reliable and the images good for a one chip camera. I do prefer the Canon's onboard exposure dial over the LCD touch screen, but everything else has been excellent. I am waiting for a small enough HD camera and may buy a Canon (7D) once the monitoring problems and AGC issues are resolved. I'd also like xlr inputs. In the meantime, I thought I would continue with std mini DV and am happy with the product after using it all these years. Mark, mmprodsRead full review
Bought this camcorder to replace the same model I have had v=for several years which was stolen. Mini DV tape is still the most flexible and best-supported medium in video editing and movie making software. This camera's image stabilization works very well, the lens has great optical range, and the camera will allow you to convert analog VHS tapes to digital formats by playing them through the camera to a PC. Cons are that still photo capability is weak, microphone is very sensitive to wind noise and backlight control is ineffective at times.
I have had several Camcorders and the DCR-TRV33 is the best in my opinion of any Camcorder selling for less than $900.00 The Camcorder has everything you can use the USB cable to put your video on the computer. You can use the memory stick and put a video of at least an hour on the computer, longer if you have a larger size memory stick, you can send the video to a DVD Recorder or put it directly to a VCR or T.V.. You can do anything with the Camcorder you can with another Camcorder in the same price range. My second choice for a Camcorder would either be a DCR-TRV22 or a DCR-HC40
It's always been my opinion that if you don't have anything good to say about someone don't say anything at all. The first time I use the Sony Handycam DCR TRV33 I was very impressed. this product really sells itself. Knowing that this item is a hot ticket item one should be carefull simply put Many Opportunities Make Man Anxious M.O.M.M.A. Sony puts together great products Although I could not purchase this item, another Sony is in my sights.
