the TOMTOM is the worst sat-nav I have ever had this is supposed to be an improvement on older models but my older one is far better, i stopped using my older one as I didn't get free map updates & it cost me £75 for the one I did buy so I bought a garmin. the menus on this 5000 are ridiculous they claim to have 'de-cluttered' the menus but all they have done is get rid of some useful ones such as the POI (points of interest) & spread the rest out over more pages that you have to scroll through. So instead of just opening one page & touching the one you want, you have to scroll through stuff you don't want but cant move as it is used regularly for searching or go home functions & if like me as you scroll through the pages your constantly tapping on the wrong so it takes even longer to do things. there is no quick mute button if your on the hands free talking, it is only 2 pages to do it but again there should be a mute button as before on the running display (my garmin has this) you have to fiddle with the unit taking your eyes off the road to mute it or put up with it interrupting you as you speak I would ask what was wrong with the old layout I bought this as I expected it to be as easy to use as the old one I have (tomtom XXL) & changed from my garmin to this as I wanted things like ask me when toll roads are planed (It does actually do this in the smallest text at the top of the screen but only for about 3 seconds & if you miss it then the route gets planed WITH toll roads, the older one I have asked me on the screen in big text & you had to reply yes or no, not assume if no answer in 3 seconds its ok to use the toll roads. if I want to find a supermarket or sandwich shop now I have to type in Tesco or asda etc, how are you supposed to know which is the closest without typing every one in. WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HAVING THE POINTS OF INTEREST BUTTION we could find post office or a place for something to eat easily?? the voice commands are poor & that is if you can get it to recognise the command (the garmin is easy & does recognise the voice commands)there isn't even a voice control for 'go home' on this tomtom. there is no Bluetooth to connect your phone to it instead of favourites they now call your saved locations 'my places' but it is complicated to store these & the quick way I thought I had found can put you 1/2 mile away for some reason, again the garmin is easy. because it only has a small memory & its barley big enough for the maps alone you will need to fit a micro sd card for any other features such as voices & 8Gb is the biggest it will take. my advice is have a garmin, I will be gong back to my garmin now as it is easier to use & more friendly it isn't all bad though is does have good traffic information that seems to update regularly & there are free map updates but even this is problematic it took me 3 attempts to install the updated maps & get them to work & this was on a brand new high spec computer with 50meg fibre optic broadband. the voice telling you the road names is quite good but can only be described as very amusing in wales, the garmin voice is dreadful with its pronunciation but I can live with that.Read full review

Things I love: Routes VERY quickly If you take another direction, does not endlessly try to get you to turn around but reroutes FAST Clever SLEEP facility when you take off the mount. Mount itself is magnetic, much better than old style Less reflections on screen which is lovely and large Great night colours (default to 0% if using on motorway, anything else too bright) In last 4000 miles totally accurate, used all over piccadilly and Soho last night! No issues with speed cameras or maps Just brilliant

I already had the go 600 but not having to link my phone is a great benefit with this unit. The slightly smaller screen isn't a problem as its still quite generously laid out.

Really like this sat nav. it is easy to use with nice clear graphics. It is in a great as new condition, so it was a good buy as it was cheaper than buying a new one. Pleased that it came with a hard case. It did not come with a car mount but I managed to buy a new click and go one on line which is very good as you can take the Tom Tom off your dash easily .
