About this product

Product Information

The "Band" plays on in this follow-up to the chart-topping, peripheral swapping Rock Band. Once again up to four friends can jam together on drums, lead vocals, guitar, and bass as they choose from a number of licensed songs from rock's biggest artists. The "World Tour" mode from the first game expands to new venues and now includes the ability to embark on a solo bass tour in addition to gigs with the other instruments. This mode is also no longer as restrictive, allowing friends to join in or leave at any time, custom characters to switch instruments, and more.

Perhaps the biggest new addition for competitive musicians is the "Battle of the Bands" mode. Various challenges are continuously updated online that involve testing your rhythmic skills in themed events. These could involve trying to break a high score on a particular song, complete a series of riffs, and so forth. Bands will be able to see the target score to beat from another band and can continue to play a particular challenge until it's mastered. Challenges will disappear over time as well, with some lasting mere minutes or more difficult ones appearing for months.

Other new features include more character creation items, from faces and costumes to accessories and piercings, a jukebox option, a revamped "Tutorials" mode with in-depth drum training, and more. Rock Band 2 owners can use the same peripherals introduced with its predecessor, or they can upgrade their gear with the all-new bundle. Refinements to the equipment include velocity-sensitive drum pads, metal-reinforced kick pads, softer button clicks, more responsive strum bars, and support for expansion slots for add-ons like cymbals.

Rock Band 2 ships with an 84-song library and offers the option to import tracks and downloaded content from the original Rock Band. Featured tracks include "White Wedding Pt. 1," "Kids in America," "Everlong," "Ace of Spades," "Any Way You Want It," "Pinball Wizard," "Aqualung," and "Ramblin' Man." Making their music game debut are legendary artists AC/DC and Bob Dylan. As with the original title, Rock Band 2 supports individual track and album downloads to expand your interactive music library.

  • Rock Band for the PS3

I started with Rock Band 2 on the Wii. It worked quite well, but did not have much support (of the 600 songs available, less than 25% were available to buy for the Wii). Also, the 'cool' controllers (Rock Axe, Drum Rocker, etc) were not yet available for the Wii. I picked up an older PS3 and ordered this game to see how it compares to the Wii version. On the plus side, many more songs are available to purchase. It works pretty much like the Wii version. I also got Guitar Hero World Tour; in my opinion Rock Band 2 is more playable than GH. First of all, the background graphics for Rock Band seem 'better' than those in Guitar Hero. More lifelike in appearance and movement, and more different actions. I find the 'bars' in RB to be easier to index than the 'circles' in GH, and the ...

  • Great title but maybe not the best for everyone

When I opened Rock Band 2 I had high expectations that it would be the band game of all band games. As I dove into the game I found the trophies to be an awesome addition to the game and the world tour was great. The song selection not so great. Yes it has some good ones but not all are that good. I have about 6 hours in and its been a fun 6 hours but my complaints are these. It has a no fail mode but it doesnt save where as Guitar Hero has a beginner level where you just have to get the beat correct. This is great if you have a small child who wants to play too. Guitar Hero has a tug of war competition against legendary figures but to this point I havent had that opportunity in Rock Band Dont get me wrong I will continue to play both but if you are looking for a great song ...

  • rock band 2 ps3

great game the only thing is is that the battery is very noisy by the plastic is made around the drums so Put your hands in the air for Rock Band 2, the incredible sequel to the game that put the dream of rock stardom within your grasp. Packed with even more music, a more expansive World Tour mode and much more, Rock Band 2 delivers a thrilling musical experience that will make you reluctant to ever leave the stage. Rock out to more than 100 on-disc and downloadable tracks based on master recordings from artists such as System of a Down, Foo Fighters, The Who and Elvis Costello. Savor a truly global rock experience as you take your band's tour online and compete against bands half a world away in Battle of the Bands mode. With the included peripherals you can easily live out your fantasies ...

  • Great Sequel, With Some Quirks

Overall, Rock Band 2 is a fantastic game that I'd immediately recommend to anyone that enjoyed the first game, or anyone who's interested in picking this type of game up for the first time. It's got a great base song set, (about 80 tracks in all, with a code for 20 more free) but sometimes suffers from songs that seem as though they were just sort of "thrown in" as filler. Gameplay is about what you'd expect from RB, with flashy menus that can be a bit tedious to navigate at times but that do not detract overall from the experience. My only major complaint is that the in-song screen's graphics seem a bit stretched, with numbers and text sometimes appearing a bit out of proportion.
