This is my first Kindle, so I didn't know what to expect. I'm very happy with it. Granted, the Fire's touchscreen is easier to navigate, but the loooong battery life on this one is wonderful. I learned the buttons and navigation system quickly. It came bundled with a leather case, which I like a lot. Unless I haven't figured it all out yet, it seems to show the books in my library in a list, intead of pictures of each book. That's OK. The long battery life is the best. We get blackouts ever so often, so I wanted to have something I could use during a blackout. The screen does not light up, but a clip on light will take care of that. Oh, and it's a little slimmer, smaller, and more lightweight than the Fire. Very easy for me to read and carry around.

Screen has no backlight and is very tiny. If I'd realized it, I would have spent more than $20 for a used Samsung. Now I just have a paperweight or a target to shoot at.

The eReader is in good condition, light weight, easy to use and read from. The only draw back is there is the screen is not back lighted but for this price the screen is clear and easy to read with lights in the room. There is a scratch on the screen as indicated in the product notes but it is easy to ignore. I love the case. I am pleased with this purchase.

I love the e-ink display! So much easier on my aging eyes than back-lit screens. For the majority of my reading needs, color isn't important, so this works great! I've used the kindle app on my phone, tablet, and computer for years -- I love kindle e-books -- but I never got around to buying an actual Kindle device until recently. I wish I'd bought one years ago! I bought this 5th generation one used, about 8 years after this model it was released, and it's still great! Battery life - WOW! I usually read 2 or 3 hours a day during the week, and sometimes 5 or 6 hours on Sat and Sun, and this just keeps going! I usually plug it in about once a week - but I've never had the battery run out on me. If/when this one needs to be retired, I'll definitely look for another with the e-ink display, but at 8 years old, this one is still going strong, and works perfectly!Read full review

I bought this for my son. Hands down I like it. I took the time to play around with it before I gave it to him for his b-day. Vary convenient item to have. Books are easy to load it they are from an external source. And the books from amazon easily transfer to the device. The screen is very readable and the navigation is simple to understand. There are two things I noticed about the device I didn't like but they are just annoyance issues. One is the page buttons. I know they are there for people who are either left handed or right handed. I just find it annoying when I pick up the device with the hand I like to hold the device with and accidentally hit a page button. The next thing is when typing searches. Don't get me wrong. The search function is a nice idea. But having to navigate to each letter and select each letter is also annoying to me. Thats the main reason I bought a bluetooth keyboard for my PS3 to shorten the letter selection process. All in all we both love this device. I think I actually use it more than him.Read full review
