Notes
2009 collection from the Bay Area Folk rockers. We Five were the highest charting act to emerge from San Francisco until the rise of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their summer 1965 smash, 'You Were on My Mind', was as important as 'Mr. Tambourine Man' in introducing the public to the notion of Folk-Rock. This collection draws upon the group's three albums for A&M, mostly produced under the careful auspices of Frank Werber's Trident Productions, as well as featuring rare gems such as the non-LP single 'There Stands the Door' and a host of previously unissued sides. Produced with full co-operation from the group's members and illustrated with many rarely-seen photos, There Stands the Door - the Best of We Five is an essential purchase for any lover of mid-60s Pop. Ace.

  • Think before entering this door

I loved the first two We 5 albums when they came out. I was very disappointed when the original group split up. I even bought the third album by the reconfigured group, and enjoyed it was well. A few years ago I bought the compilation CD with the first two albums on one CD. When I saw this, I thought it might contains some extra tracks I had not heard. It does, but the reason they are not on the earlier albums might be because they are not as good. There are a couple of songs by the later version of We 5 as well as "How to make a soft drink commercial" that are of mild interest, at least to listen to once, but they grow old quickly. If you don't have the CD of the first two albums, this one contains much of that music, so it would be worth purchasing. However, if you ...

  • Great collection of songs but falls short of what it could be.

This is somewhat of a strange item. I am a We Five fan so I was going to get it anyway. Eighteen of the songs are with the Beverly Bivens version of We Five, two are from the later version. The "bonus" Coca-Cola material is OK but kind of strange being on this recording. The previously unreleased songs do make this a worthwhile purchase for me. The production quality of several songs are far below acceptable levels. For instance, Love Me Not Tomorrow, starts out with a very overpowering bass, then when the vocals come in they are almost inaudible. The booklet that it comes with is also a little strange. It tries to explain the history of the group directed towards what caused the breakup and includes a transcript of a letter from Baylor University that is very critical of the ...

  • We Five

If you enjoy folk or folk rock, this CD will probably tickle your fancy. The downside, however, is that there are Coke commercials which to amount to 14 + minutes of play time.

  • A MUST HAVE for We Five fans

After 40 years of silence, at last some recordings of Bev Bivens and the original We Five that we have never heard before. I never knew they existed, but with the passing of the group's then manager, the tapes surfaced and thankfully have been made into this most welcome new release. Plus nicely engineered versions of the previously released songs we know and love. If you enjoyed the creative and energetic arrangements of the We Five and have been in love with the voice of Beverly Bivens since, oh, 1965 or so.....you gotta have this CD.

  • Nice looking cover.

    Great CD. Thanks.
