Great Portable Camera
It's not perfect, but it works. This is a camera that I've been using for nearly 20 years, so it's nice to have found a used one. The compact size and great picture quality makes it a great camera to capture images that don't require a super high quality.

I tend to break and lose expensive items in my possession, so I wanted a camera that took decent pictures, wasn't hard to operate (I'm not exactly technologically experienced), and wasn't too expensive or brand new. I opted for a used older model, and I don't think Sony sells this in their stores anymore, but you can get it on ebay like I did. It takes great pictures, its easy to operate, and it's small and cute enough for a girl like me to carry out on the town in my small purse. I like that the lens doesn't have to retract out. The battery life isn't too great, (just over an hour for the picture taking function) but I got an extra battery with my purchase which was great. I don't like that the Sony memory sticks aren't universally compatible, but I'm getting a USB adapter which will ... DSC-T7 Very Nice Camera in it's niche
We have a T-1 and liked it a lot and we bought the T-7 so that each of us would have a nice digital camera when we go on vacations. Also, sometimes my wife wants to take the camera to work on the same day that I want to post items on eBay. I think you have to accept the T-7 for what it is. It is an extremely fashionable camera that is very easy to slip into your pocket or purse. We were recently on a cruise, standing in a small group of people. When we pulled out the camera to take some photos, suddenly two other guys produced their identical T-7s. One guy was from China and the other from Europe. In March of 2006, it was the latest and greatest thing to have. Now that the T-9 has arrived on the scene I suppose all the "hip" jet-setters will be buying that. It seems that the DSC-T7 does ... We have a T-1 and liked it a lot and we bought the T-7 so that each of us would have a nice digital camera when we go on vacations. It seems that the DSC-T7 does have some issues with photo quality. Twice now, during evening photo sessions, the first few flash photos turned out really nice and crisp but the ones shot later were grainy. Photos shot in daylight always seem to be nice and sharp. We purchased the waterproof case and the photos we took underwater were absolutely fantastic. The LCD screen can be hard to use in bright sunlight and for that reason it would be nice to also have a viewfinder. However, adding that would increase the size and bulk of the camera which would detract from its value as a fashion accessory. Just like all the other cameras of this type, the LCD screen is easily scratched so it is vital that keep it in the little bag that it comes in or purchase some type of carrying case to protect it. It is very easy to recharge the battery on the T-1 by just plugging it in or placing in the cradle but on the T-7 you have to remove the battery. Foolishly, I thought I could use the same USB adapter with both cameras but this is not the case. It is a completely different setup. Am I sorry that I bought the T7? No. Would I purchase another one? No, but if something happens to either the T1 or T7 that we currently own, I would probably replace it with the T9 or whatever Sony has on the market at that time.

In a day and age where the Motorola razor phone, and anything slim, sleek and sexy are the rage, this camera fits right in. It's also got really decent and sharp optics, by size Carl Zeiss. The screen on this camera is truly gorgeous. The super macro features absolutely unbelievable, and the carefully tuned flash output is just enough to not overpower the picture. Pictures outside during the day are quite good. Video mode outside daylight rivals a lot of digital camcorders. Startup and snap to snap times are quick and peppy. Build quality and construction of the unit overall are excellent. THE BAD: Where the camera fell short is in several key areas, some of which are difficult to blame on Sony engineers, and some just a matter physics and the limits of our technology today also taking into account the price point that consumers would be willing to pay for such a camera. VALUE FOR THE MONEY (IT WASN��T VERY GOOD TO BEGIN WITH) I've owned the Sony DSC-T1, the very first in the series in 2004. And before that, in 2002 I owned the Minolta X-1 which uses the similar technology in reducing the lens size. Back then, the T1 was a 5.1 megapixel digital camera with the same sensor taking pictures through the same lens -- but in a slightly bigger case. Fast forward to 2005, and you have the DSC-T7, which is the top of line of the range of the Sony ultra compact cameras and you still only have the same three times optical zoom and a 5.1 megapixel digital sensor. All for a grand price of $499. In retail stores such as Best Buy this camera sells for $449. (I got mine for free in a drawing.) WHAT��S WRONG WITH IT: The difference now as opposed to the T1 is now the battery life is a fraction of what used to be. Also the unit is so small and slim, sensor so small (light capturing ability is bad), high iso quality is poor and only reaches 400 ISO, it's nearly impossible to take a sharp picture in low light without using flash. On top of that the flash range is significantly shorter than most point and shoots - the T1 included. The controls have been jumbled around so that now it is very, very difficult to operate the camera with one hand for the quick snap and shoot shots that have made this series so popular. Expensive accessories! The camera uses Sony's proprietary memory stick duo format. You cannot zoom in or out while recording videos. There's no charging docking station included now (the T1 had one included). You only get a simple cloth case to protect the camera with out-of-the-box. For a pocket camera, a lot of dust sure seems to seep into the lens �V stuff that you can��t get out. The sliding cover adds a lot to the dimensions, and does little to protect against du

I've been using this camera for about a year now. Takes great Pictures, however for use on eBay, you need to adjust the colors for Red, Green & Yellow. Pictures are excellent but if you are selling something on eBay, you need to tweek the colors (which every minute counts when you sell as much as we do), which is why I gave this camera a good instead of excellent. If you are just taking family photos, or just for fun, I recommend this camera, but if you are looking for a great true to color camera for eBay that will be quick & easy without having to touch up the photos to get the right coloring, then I would pass on this camera, since it would be worth the few bucks more to not hassle with changing the color slightly.I've been using this camera for about a year now.
