A book written by a potentially paranoid man named Atrus serves as a portal to an otherworldly place, the island of Myst, in this atmospheric adventure game by developer Cyan. Forgoing the character interaction and inventory-based puzzles found in earlier computer adventure games, Myst places you in a lonely, desolate environment with no obvious indication on where you should go or what you are supposed to do. By exploring the island, you will eventually stumble upon an assortment of puzzles in the form of intricate contraptions, whose secrets can only be unlocked after discovering evidence of their nature. As you progress in the game, you will find four other books written by Atrus that magically transport you to additional worlds, each offering more interconnected puzzles and clues to the storyline. Myst's look is noteworthy for featuring still images viewed from a first-person perspective, with interaction limited to manipulating a cursor over each static picture.

    1998 Myst will not work on new Mac

    I love the game Myst, very mind challenging game. Now for the bad news, This 1998 game will not install or play on a new Apple Mac, Will only play on an older 06 ( operating system 6 ) Macintosh. I also have my original HP Myst disk, only installs on windows XP or older computer. It helps that I have the strategy help guide book for Myst. I'm now stuck in the rocket ship at the piano.

    Runs on mac emulator right out of the box

    Runs just fine in Sheepshaver and load time is rare. As promised, disc has little to no scratches. This vintage Macintosh edition is the definitive original version of Myst, as the Windows port (including the Masterpiece Edition) contains many shortcuts that remove the full experience.

    Get Real Myst Instead.

    Myst is a great game. Non-violent puzzle solving with beautiful imagery and an interesting plot. If you machine can handle it, you would be better off getting Real Myst instead. Same game (puzzles and plot) but much prettier interface (actual virtural reality instead of a series of 8-bit color still pictures).

    myst for mac

    excellent excitement, no violence. graphics are lovely as well as great sound. played it yearsa ago and it hasnt't lost its charm or challenge. would reccomend it to anyone who seeks a challenge.

    Myst for Mac

    I was unable to play this game because I have an iMac with OSX. This new OS does not play the older games because of the inability to manually adjust the virtual memory settings.
