Very good device for how old it is!
This device brought back some deep nostalgia for me with music. It has a true shuffle feature that I enjoy as opposed to the new way all iPhones shuffle with a algorithm and not a true shuffle anymore. Works with newest iTunes and plugs right in with a classic usb. There is no simpler apple device to use!

the 1st-gen Shuffle is a wonderful piece of technology- no dock needed! just uncap and plug in. Works wonderfully with iTunes 10.x, the batteries in most of them are still going strong... PROS: About the size, if not a smidge larger, than a pack of gum. I can easily fir it in my hand, use it as a flashdrive when needed, etc. the internal chipset has superior bass response than the PortalPlayer chips found in the older iPods (I'd know, I'm also rocking an iPod 3G 10GB...), and the Gen 2 Shuffle still doesn't come anywhere close to the response this model gives. This was at a time when Apple was also giving you the option for optical out on their AirPort Express and iMac G5s... the ability to drop this into any USB port and charge/manage at the same time is wonderful. I seperately ... the 1st-gen Shuffle is a wonderful piece of technology- no dock needed! just uncap and plug in. I seperately purchased an armband for my current one new in box, and I plan on using it almost exclusively in that armband all summer long. the ability to just clip on an accessory to the USB port is nice... a WONDERFUL feature. it's also the most recognizable iPod, because it's the ONLY WHITE SHUFFLE MADE. ever. the 2nd gen doesn't have anything on this fine piece of electronics except the fact that it's smaller, although thicker, and made of metal. this one is all plastic. if I recall, most car makers added a USB port exclusively for the Shuffle, but I forget where I read that, so don't take my word for it. CONS: first off, the Cap. you can easily lose it... but there are new ones available by themselves on eBay all the time, and for peanuts. Accessories are also cheap now, and the original lanyard cap can be found for under $10. Although also a Pro, the plastic outing can also be considered a con. I got my current 512 I'm replacing with a 1GB for $10 at a garage sale and there are small cracks on the back of it where the extremely unnoticeable corner crevice meets on all sides. As with this Shuffle and those to come after, you can only "sync" with one library at a time. even if the music is manually managed, Apple put in a failsafe to only allow one machine to interact with this model. Way to go, Apple.

I was apprehensive about buying a refurbished item. However, the disign of the 1st generation shuffle was what I was looking for. I wanted it simple and easy to store. It slips into my seatbelt when driving and the controls are handy. I didn't need alot of memory as in a nano. I didn't want a clip on as in the newer generation of shuffle. Being the first refurbished item I have ever bought,Im pleased with the sound quality and the ease of which songs transfer. I was pleasantly surprised that the charger is built in. Hey! It's a portable flashdrive too!! It's perfect for me.I was apprehensive about buying a refurbished item. However, the disign of the 1st generation shuffle was what I was looking for. I wanted this specific iPod for a very particular reason. I need to memorize certain things for school. I memorize things better when I hear it over and and over. I picked this because it has no online capability, no screen, or anything that would distract me. Unlike other generations of iPod shuffle models, this one doesn't need a cable. I never got the battery completely drained but I got 6 hours before I plugged it in to charge over night.I wanted this specific iPod for a very particular reason. wonderful product
had to find a program to put songs on the thing. I sure love the tiny, easy to use design. I just slip it in my pocket and go to work in my yard, or garden. but whats really nice are the walks on the beach, or in the redwoods. (when I was young we had to carry around a boom box to get the Quality sound this little ipod puts out.
