The only reason I got this unit was to "experiment" with Audio Recording. In the 80's, although most multi-track cassette recorders dominated the market, there were a few brave souls who ventured into recording onto VHS tape using a VCR recorder. I replicated this process in 2016 using a Summit Analogue Pre-Amp routed through Pro-Tools 10 onto my 8 year old iMac. I also used a "Blue Bottle" microphone. Keep in mind that VHS tape is 1/2", and cassette tape is about 1/8". So, the band width is 4x wider with VHS tape. The recording results were really good. Listening to the playback was actually pretty amazing. The bottom line is that Audio Recording into a VCR machine with VHS tape is not only possible, but creates an "above average final product" in terms of recording basic tracking. And, because the signal path was "dual fed" into Pro-Tools 10, it opens up additional avenues to tweak the basic track when mixing to further enhance the sound of the final product. It is a super, inexpensive way to record analogue with a very acceptable quality!Read full review

It stopped working after a few plays: it would play and then shut off after a few seconds. I had to take it apart to get a tape out of it that got stuck. After 2 tries with buying a VCR on eBay, I am reaching the conclusion that getting a used VCR is at best problematic. I wound up throwing it out.

I already own this dvd/vcr combo and wanted the same one for my Mother. Knowing how to operate mine would make it easier to help her with learning how to use it. It took a lot of looking to find the exact same one and was thrilled to find this one. As stated, the dvd door didn't work and that was fine. I wanted it for the vcr. It works great...no problems at all. It is easy to operate. I would recommend this particular brand and model to everyone. It is much easier to learn and operate than any other brand I've tried.
This used VCR Combo works great and is very easy to use. The only downside I have encountered is fair to good image quality viewing 25 year old homemade VHS tapes. Otherwise quality iand performance is great.

It worked fine the first three times and then I put a brand new CD in the DVD player and it started skipping. Not sure what the problem is hopefully it was just that one new CD!
