Performance, capacity and reliability vs cost make this the deal of choice for low-cost bulk data storage. These drives were designed, fabricated and tested for enterprise/data center service, where buyers have plenty of economic muscle and are most unamused by failures regardless of cause. Yes, they do have some tens of thousands of hours of use on them, but with an MTBF of 2.5 million hours, actual usage time is not highly significant. These are mechanical drives—they do make some noise, especially when/if they're being worked hard in a random-access regime. They do produce some heat; a decently ventilated housing is a must. And they are big-ish and heavy-ish, unlike their solid-state equivalents. But for those of us who are comfortable with these constraints, these drives provide an unbeatable solution to relentless data bloat. Highly recommended.Read full review
