Before buying a digital camcorder, I read about them on eBay, and some of the sellers give you a guide to figure out what camera is best for you and your purposes with the camcorder. I quickly figured out that I needed a Mini-DV, or at least that type of camcorder. I figured Sony probably made the best, as my daughter had a Sony digital camera and was really happy with it. I am not a reader, in other words, I don't like to read instruction guides and/or manuals on anything. I have learned most of what I know about all my electronics through trial and error (mostly error). This camera was, I believe, a floor model, not brand new, but like new. It has been very easy to figure out how to operate, by only going to the manual a few times for various things I can't figure out for myself. I have only had this camcorder about a month, and have already made five good videos, except, I somehow accidently erased most of one of them. I love to video animals and small children and have gotten some very good videos from this camera already. The hardest thing I have had to figure out to do is to connect it to our TV to watch the videos. It took awhile, but after I figured it out (with manual opened), the videos were absolutely great!! I could not believe the great videos this little camera made. The next thing I want to do is hook up the camcorder to my computer, then hopefully make DVD's out of them. My computer at my workplace does all that sort of thing. I plan to send some of my video clips to America's Funniest Videos and Planet's Funniest Animals. I joke with my Grandchildren that I am going to put them on National TV and make $100,000.00 off of them........................ Actually. I would be really proud to get $100.00 and a T-shirt from Planet's Funniest Videos!!!!Read full review
This camcorder records in spectacular color. The 20x optical zoom is a great feature. The greatest feature for my needs is the Super Night Shot. The regular night shot puts a small circle of light where you can see. The Super Night Shot lights up an entire room. It is very suited for paranormal applications but with super night shot, you need to put it on a tripod due to pixalization. I also recommend an FP90 battery which lasts between 4 & 8 hours.
LCD screen puts out vibrant colors. Touch screen is excellent to use and you can access the menu and change something while recording with simple ease. One quirk about it that I kinda dont like is that when I take photo still, it does puts alot of grainy pictures (pixels) when viewing it. I assumed sony has this under control which obviously it got away. Other than that, It is an excellent mini dv camcorder.
I purchased this camcorder to replace the one I broke. Do not let them fall because they can break. I was only as far as from my hands to the floor but it was enough to kill my favorite toy. I love this camcorder. Easy to use, small, clean images if you use good Digital Tape. The cheeper ones make it look pixilated and messes up the heads. Other than that it does a great job. I have used it on my Show a number of time. With the DCR HC42 and a boom mic it really performs. I love the features and how easy it is to capture from my computer. BIG STINK - the bottom opens to insert the DV Tape. Not cool when you are mounted on a tripod and in the middle of a shoot. You have to unscrew the tripod from the camcorder and then change out and rescrew the tripod to resume the shoot. You have to have a back-up camcorder taking up for lost footage and time. This is also a bad feature SONY puts on a number of models - I wrote to SONY but they still put out these dogs from time to time with their reason stating these are for shoulder or hand held. If that is the case - I wonder why did they place a tripod mount on the bottom? Great little camcorder for the dollar if you don't have to use a tripod.Read full review
Great Picture quality. I was amazed how steady the image was even after zoomed in all the way. Very small and light, fits right in your palm. The docking station is a great plus. All the user option are accessed through a touch screen display which can be frustrating if you have fat fingers. The menus are not exactly intuitive. The display might flash "lens cover" (or something like that) even after the cover is open (will not interfere with recording) Overall great product for point and shoot recoding and easy transfer to computer. Not very good if you plan on using advanced camera features frequently.
