inexpensive way to get higher quality 2-channel audio playback
Note the DVD-1730 is the low end of Denon DVD players. I use it mostly as a higher sound quality music player due to its excellent D/A converters, and in this role it can be used very easily WITHOUT being hooked up to any TV/video (some players are un-usable unless you can see the on-screen menus, such as the older DVD-2910, and an LG I own). It can handle MP3 and WMA. My only complaints would be 1) it can only handle MP3/WMA on CDs not DVDs whereas the 1740 can handle data DVDs, and 2) without the on-screen display there is no music folder navigation, such as jump to prev/next folder, I had a JVC that would do that. I suppose the video across HDMI is only ok by modern standards. Of course, with the advent of blueray these players are dying off, but that means you can also get them cheaply ... Probably a good product but the unit didn't have audio
Unfortunately, the audio did not work. Nice video image and easy to set up with HDMI but could not get sound. I had to return it.
