this older model radio is excellent. sound is not stereo but has both sides coming out from its speaker. durable and extremely portable. you can use earbuds but its not necessary. also a wonderful conversation starter. "what's that?", "it's called a radio". "oooohhh, gasps the crowd!"

Poor Quality
I bought this to replace an old analog pocket radio. I liked the idea of a digital tuner with memory presets. It turned out the radio was very nice in both of those respects. Very easy to use. Unfortunately, in every other respect it is horrible. I have had many portable radios over the years, and this has by far the worst sound quality. I usually only listen to talk radio on AM, so I don't need much. However, this is so bad it is unacceptable. The tuning isn't very good either. I have never had a radio shack product before and assumed they were decent. Now I know why they went out of business. I did try new batteries and it was no better. Edit: I noticed all the excellent reviews on this product other than mine. I still hold to what I said, but now believe maybe I just got a bad one. I ... The sound is clear and crisp, and the programming is easy to figure out even without instructions. I especially like the functions being fully digital. The radio is a little on the large size for a shirt pocket and there is no belt clip.
