Interesting,,,,not bad for being an 8
Well I was building a car sound system equipped with a descent bass for my 4 door Santa Fe Hyundai, so I did a few research and I found this bass subwoofer to be interesting but the one problem was that it was a bit pricey but bought it anyway with the proper built ported box powered with a Precision Power amplifier (Korea models not USA) I wasn't really expecting too much bass, so when I heard it once Best Buy Geek Squak installed it and tuned it, you could literally hear the bass slammin' hardcore all over the store, I couldn't believe the amount of bass that monster puts out, it was just too much bass for what I was looking for since it was 300 RMS, but it seemed like it was 600 watts RMS, I though the guys maxed out all the gains and volume but it was all properly tuned up, and the ... I'm a professional sound operator for my music band so based on my knowledge experience on the pro audio world of the "bass" part, I feel this subwoofer is pretty impressive since it's a very small subwoofer, and doesn't require a huge box nor a big amp which is good for more cargo. The quality bass is pretty good (wet sound not dry such as Kicker), but I feel it does lack the deep low ranges around 20-30HZ then again it's an 8", remember quality is very different than it's frequency responce, and that's the other part i felt it wasn't too good, I felt it was just too much boom around the 30-50HZ range with great quality sound, period. I'm quite sure using a 31 band Eq, a few processing here and there, and a sealed box would have make this JL 8W7 sound alot better(flat response/cleaner) not louder and boomy as I found this to be. Generally speaking, this is a quite impressive bass speaker, but for serious sound freaks like me, your gonna need lots of processing to achieve a flat responce wave, other than that, the sound is amazing, it sounds just like if you were hearing the bass part inside of a movie theater or better id'e say. My personal serious rating for this speaker, based on my experiences with absolutely *no additional processing, all direct to amp and car stereo with ported box is a 3.9 out of 5.
