About this product

Product Information

The Linksys 819 8-Port 10/100 wired router (BEFSR81) allows you to share a single IP address throughout your entire home or office network. The 8-port switch functionally splits the Internet connection for all connected computers and devices. This router device can act as a DHCP server for your home or business network and, using a single IP address, speed up your gaming and multimedia connections with an internal switch. The Linksys EtherFast BEFSR81 router offers a built-in firewall to protect your shared data and keep it safe from external intruders. Connection through the router requires a username and password. When you set up the router, change the default settings and select a username and password for your network. This password will need to be entered for any device connecting to the network. You can use the default settings to allow any users on the network to connect and administrators also have the ability to block Internet access for specific users with filtering. The Linksys BEFSR81 cable/DSL router offers a speed of 10/100 Mbps, CSMA/CD protocols, port security, packet filtering, 1/10 Mbps WAN port, 8 10/100 Mbps LAN ports, and much more. Other useful features for homes and offices include identifying up to four ports for high or low port based prioritization, QoS capabilities to reduce data loss, full wire speed layer two switching on all LAN ports, and 1K MAC address table. The router supports WinSock 2.0 and Windows 2000 Smart Applications. The Linksys EtherFast BEFSR81 router is designed to meet the changing needs of your home or office environment. These routers are designed to handle growing networking requirements for sharing files and resources, including printers, while maintaining a fast Internet or Ethernet connection. The 8-port switch allows you to directly connect eight local PCs through the ports, and you have the capability to daisy chain to additional hubs and switches when the network grows, while continuing to share a single IP address. The Linksys BEFSR81 wired router is easy to set up without the need for a network admin. These routers work on networked computer with a web browser, and the advanced functions are easily configured. The advanced functions include DMZ hosting, static port routing, forwarding, filtering, and quality of service capabilities. These functions can be configured through the web browser of any computer on the network. When computers are connected through the Linksys BEFSR81 router, they can communicate and share files and resources. You can share documents, digital pictures, and music among the networking devices. This allows you to keep music on one computer and listen to it on another computer in a different location in the house. Gaming options include the ability to play computer games against another family member or an online opponent. In addition, the devices connected through the router’s ports can print on a shared printer in the same home or building. The Linksys BEFSR81 router comes with a power adapter, RJ-45 cable, software resource disk, and user guide.

I'm so happy with my purchase 😊. Wonderful seller! My item was securely bosses up and arrived without a scratch. Also the shipping cost was excellent, and the package arrived very quickly, even though I am located out of the US mainland. I recommend this seller. I will buy again from them. 😍

I rarely leave negative feedback but in this case it is warranted. Seller took more than 2 weeks to ship item, lied about it, packaged it terribly and did not photograph the areas of extreme damage nor note any specific damage in description. The seller handled the return request with an attitude and took no responsibility for their behavior, not even offering an apology. Packaging needs improvement too.

    Linksys 8 Port Router

I've used Linksys BEFSR41 4 port routers in the past, and they have been very reliable. Now I needed an 8 port router. This BEFSR81 router is working fine and should also be very reliable

  • Good while it worked

The router worked well - for a few weeks. Then it decided to stop working (more specifically, none of the 8 ports would recognize that anything was plugged in). It let me make my usual VPN connections though (Nortel Contivity, which the D-Link I had before didn't work with), the port stealthing and HW firewalling was good, and the performance was decent. This router also has QoS, which is great if you're using a VOIP phone. Setup was also pretty straightforward. Too bad it didn't keep working longer (I also had a 4-port BEFSR41, brand new, before this, which was unreliable enough to return to the store.) I have to give Linksys a low rating, despite the fact that the router worked well - it just didn't keep working! And I've read other reviews elsewhere (eg, on Amazon) much to the same ...

  • Some help when using with wireless

I purchased a V3 BEFSR81 8 port wired router because I needed more than the 4 wired ports that my wireless router provides. The BEFSR81 works great right out of the box, but I did have difficulty figuring out how to get it to work with a wireless router. I will save you all hours of searching to net for the fix that is really easy. If programming is need: 1) Plug the Ethernet cable from your computer into one of the available ports. 2) Open a explorer window and type http://192.168.1.1 to program. The user name is blank and password is admin. If using a wireless router with this: 1) One of them has to be setup with Local DHCP server enable and one with it disabled. Most routers come default with it on. 2) Which ever router is your router (B), is plugged into router (A) via the computer ...

  • Potentially a good product, just out of date, if it works.

First, I already had one of these routers. This one was being bought as a spare. Unfortunately this router which is a discontinued model was neither new as was described in the listing as labels and documentation was not present. A router furnishes IP addresses to the computers plugged into it which distinguishes it from a switch or a hub. In the case of this router, that function did not work rendering this router useless. Had that function operated properly then this router would have received a 4 star. It is a 10/100 router and lacks the gigabit speed of newer products for the network to which is is connected. Also the connection to the internet is also a 10/100. If the internet connection is a gigabit connection then this would become a bottleneck as well. Potentially a good ...

  • Very good wired router

I've had one of these routers running for a couple of years now and they are super. Firewall is v-e-r-y good and if you stealth one port it's invisible to the internet stealth tests. I used mine with 6 computers and a print server with sharing throughout. Every computer could access the net independently of any other, could read and write to and from any other computer/drive I had shared, (and I had shared them all), and all could print to the printer without having to go through a server or other computer. So it gave me complete connectivity for everything, everywhere. (BTW, I also had a wireless router set up as a Wireless Access Point and plugged it into one of the ports. Two wireless computers could do everything the same through that one connection, albeit slower being wireless ...
