The compact and lightweight, body is made of magnesium alloy, which offers unparalleled portability and an ergonomic, easy-grip design for easy operation. Auto mode and 3 custom settings allow the photographer to choose an easy way of shooting good pictures, or to choose different settings manually, just the way the photographer likes it to be. "Film camera" features, such as 5-area multi-autofocus and various exposure metering settings are some of the features that will certainly satisfy the conventional film camera users. Features like the new Clear Image mode, Noise Reduction mode, saturation control and white balance bracketing aid in improving the quality of digital images. When shooting with slow shutter speeds and no flash, camera shake can result in soft focus. The solution for crisp images? Turn on Nikon exclusive Best Shot selector, press and hold the shutter button to take a series of pictures; the camera uses anti-jitter logic to pick the image that is in sharpest focus for you, deleting the rest. Multiple capture modes can be selected, including movies with audio. Coolpix 5000 also has a built-in speaker, therefore an instant confirmation playback of movies is possible. The new fully articulating LCD monitor gives total convenience in every shooting position. This digital camera also has an accessory shoe to connect to an external Speedlight.

    A nice, practical digital camera even after 10 years

    We are using these old cameras with a computer (and linux systems) for automatic monitoring of the Nature. The great list of useful and (now, in 2013, when this camera looks like quite an obsolete piece of equipment) very reasonable priced accessories (WC-68, FC-E8, TC-3ED etc.) makes this camera an ideal tool not only for such a purpose but even for inexpensive general photography. For example, CP-5000 with WC-68 is still unsurpassed as a cheap, robust, extra wide angle digital camera giving pictures (of equiv. focus length 19 mm) of very reasonable quality

    Excellent for Macro but has some issues

    I've owned 3 of these and I always seem to have problems with them. The batteries run out extremely fast so it's good to have about 5 batteries on had if you go out for a day of shooting. Also, sometimes the camera just won't turn on! That might be a battery issue as well. When this camera quits working, I buy another one because they are my favorite camera for shooting macro.
