so after ages of trying to get this to work with more than $300 down the drain for a project come to find that this card was dead from the start. Microsemi the company that bought adaptec where helpful. Also this was used... not new. Apparently there was still data waiting to be flushed to the hard drive but due to internal damage somewhere in its lifetime it could no longer function past the detection phase...
