Developer Harmonix Music Systems and producer MTV Games deliver a rock band in a box for up to four players with "Rock Band: Special Edition" for PS2. The specialized instrument hardware included allows you to fill different roles in the band on your path to music stardom. People everywhere can go on a world tour through their PlayStation 2 consoles, singing or playing one of several instruments. In a first for PlayStation video games, Rock Band gives you several options for making your rock dreams come true.Included in the "Rock Band: Special Edition" bundle from Harmonix is a PS2 game, a drum set, a guitar, and a microphone. Used separately or altogether, you play through a song and score points by matching notes scrolling across the screen. In addition to the notes on the screen, the band creates a live music video, and the crowd gives feedback. The more accurate you drum, strum, or sing, the louder they cheer. They'll also boo and jeer loudly for missed notes. There are 45 songs from artists like Bon Jovi, The Ramones, Black Sabbath, and Stone Temple Pilots to choose from in the game. Some songs are the original album versions while others are special variations.The drums included in the bundle feature four virtual drum pads, a pedal for the kick drum, and real drumsticks. On the screen, notes will scroll upward to indicate pads representing the hi-hat, crash cymbal, snare, and tom-tom drums. Many songs will have special sections to show off your skills and improvise by playing whatever sounds best to you. An overdrive mode can be activated at the end of these sections that adds a multiplier to the points scored. Display your drumming prowess by switching the difficulty up to hard and show off as the master of musical games.The Fender Stratocaster guitar has buttons at the top and bottom of the neck that correspond to notes on the screen as well. The higher fret buttons are for use in songs that feature a guitar solo with a switch to apply effects. Like the drums, chains of well-played notes will unlock overdrive mode with a score multiplier for hitting huge numbers. Set the high score and become the person to beat or keep raising the bar for yourself as you improve your skills. The guitar can also be used to play bass parts, which is sometimes more of a challenging role than lead guitar.The vocal line in Rock Band for PS2 scrolls horizontally across the top of the screen during the game. Lyrics appear under green bars that indicate tone, which the player must match by singing relative pitch to the original artist. As all three musicians try to play in harmony, their progress is checked by the Band Meter that determines who is succeeding by muting a player who isn't matching the notes.Rated T for Teen, Rock Band on the PlayStation 2 is a game that sets itself apart. It is the first game to include more than one instrument, and it's the first game simulating a real band experience.

    Works Good

    Very happy the only problems are the microphone has a short song I have to get it perfect to work and the disc is scratched so it doesnt play right but I'm happy easy fixes.

    Awesome addition to a set I already have.

    My kids already have the game it we just needed the drum set and another guitar. What I didn't like is, the guitar has been REALLY used (as all used items are) 2 of the buttons do not work properly. That's my only issue with my purchase.

    Rock hard!

    The product itself is fantastic, i do feel that the guitar isn't quite as great build quality as some of the other Guitar Hero guitars that are available, but the solo keys are a nice addititon. The drums are well designed, completely height adjustable, would have been nice to be able to adjust the tilting angle, and maybe have a layout slightly more similar to a realistic drumset- but all these worries get thrown away when you start playing. A truely fun game even for those with poor hand/eye coordination!! With little practise you wioll find yourself shredding like the best of them with difficulty levels available to suit all tastes. The only thing i will say is that i purchased the US version to play here in the UK, and use swap discs to play imports; swap discs do not support this ...

    my 7,15,17 & 19 yr olds love it. but need more songs

    It's a nice product, very enjoyable! I even tried it once. The kids have the PS3 and the PS2 bundles and love them both. The only thing is that since the PS2 version can't download songs they should really make another PS2 song game that can be purchased. Maybe even think about making new onces every once in a while to give a variety. ALSO, I REALLY WISH THEY WOULD MAKE CHRISTIAN SONG GAMES FOR IT! I know there's a big demand out there for it!!! Other than that we are satisfied with this product. Oh and for you's that are not too tech savvy. The product is very easy to set up and only needs a lil assembly on the drums (very easy). It don't come with play instructions but,once hooked up to Playstation kids will figure out how to play it's pretty easy! ONE MORE THING... we've had the PS3 ...

    Rocking Out With Rockband 2

    I love this game. My son introduced me to Guitar Hero when it first came out. I then bought the Guitar Hero bundle and gave one guitar to my son(Who had made it a habit each day to go to Best Buy and play for hours on the demo in store.). All he need do was to purchase the game disc for himself. We would get together and rock out for hours. Then when Rockband came out my son purchased it and he(on drums), my grand-daughter(guitar),his girlfriend(vocals) and I(guitar/bass) would all rock out together having the greatest family fun. Well the Rockband set was my son's at my son' house leaving me no time to practice the drums and vocals. So I had to get one for myself. Plus now when the other grands visit we have a great time together as a family. And along with all this fun you are learning ...
