This 6-ohm tower is adequate for some sound systems but limiting in others.
Visual: 3 - About average. These are attractive looking speakers to my eyes. The grills conform to the actual speaker dimensions (i.e. round) instead of the more uninteresting standard rectangular "coverall" on most speaker enclosures. Even in the plain black-grained veneer they are easy on the eye. Although I've read of some folks dissatisfied with the reduced cabinet height (compared to other towers, that is), I recommend leaving them at floor level or else the higher frequencies will overwhelm the bass somewhat. Solution: leave at floor level and augment with a powered subwoofer. Performance: 2 - Less than average. Actually, some of the performance inadequacy is due to my own ignorance. I learned more after installing and listening to them and perusing some of the HiFi forums. The ... Visual: 3 - About average. These are attractive looking speakers to my eyes. I learned more after installing and listening to them and perusing some of the HiFi forums. The issue is simple. These are 6 OHM IMPEDANCE speakers! Seems a fairly benign issue, right? Not really. In my own case, I was hoping to use them in combination with another pair to create a quasi-surround listening area but not with these towers, unfortunately. The amp will only SAFELY power 2 pairs of 8 ohm speakers simultaneously so the additional pair (my small 8 ohm set) can only be used while the primary pair (the Pioneer 6 ohm towers) have been turned off. Naturally, in this case, it doesn't matter whether the 6 ohm tower is Pioneer or another manufacturer, the same issue exists. So just a word of caution to the uneducated (like me!). Also, another consequence of the lowered impedance (once again, a general issue) is that the dB level is significantly reduced from the previous 8 ohm driver. That means it will be harder to balance it with a powered subwoofer and you will find yourself adjusting the volume abnormally high to achieve a similar listening experience. If I had it to do over again, I would stick to an 8 ohm tower regardless of the cabinet aesthetics. But that's just me. Price: 4 - Better than average. For $100 a tower, there is a lot of value here. I am powering these with a 100 RMS wpc receiver, but will be shopping for a more powerful amp, somewhere in the 150 to 200 wpc range which should compensate well for the impedance change. Whether my next amp will perform well with mixed speaker impedance ratings or not... well... we'll see at that point. Consensus: Now that I've gotten an education, I consider any speaker impedance other than 8 ohm to be non-standard and limited to only special environments like a HTIB set-up that just happens to utilize a complete 6 ohm speaker environment. The limitations may not be worth the potential "bargain" in the long run. I hope this review provides some food for thought for others shopping for tower speakers as an upgrade or as part of new component system. ***** I am recommending them ONLY for those prospective buyers who fully understand the consequences and considerations of installing a non-standard speaker impedance product into their existing system. For all others, I suggest looking elsewhere. *****

Pretty much the same as the FS52s and more durable.
I had to replace my FS52s because a rotten puppy literally ate them. The timbre and clarity of these is very good, the FS52s might have been a bit more neutral but it is nothing that Audyssey or whatever calibration your AVR has can’t correct. Make sure you toe them in properly or the highs won’t sound right, and keep them a few inches from the wall or you’ll have a bad hump between 100 and 200 Hz. They would probably sound a lot better without EQ if I didn’t have them shoved in the corners of the room. Most importantly, the bug-eye metal grilles are puppy proof. Beautiful design and great sound as one would expect from Pioneer.
I bought these speakers due to the fact they were designed by Andrew Jones. Pioneer is a respected electronics company and did not disappoint with theses floor speakers. The design is beautiful and the sound quality is top notch for the price range. My only advice to anyone thinking of purchasing these is to ensure you set the speaker size on your a/v receiver to small for these as it will recognizer them as big. I say this due to the fact if you like to listen to your surround sound loud or listen to music with heavy bass they tend to distort a bit at high volumes. This hasn't happened since i changed the settings. The sound is not really affected as long as you have a sub woofer. This is my first home theater system and i'm extremely satisfied with this purchase.I bought these speakers due to the fact they were designed by Andrew Jones.
