Worth it if you like old Ipods
I was worried the battery would be shot because of how old it is but it seems to work nice getting 10 hours or so of playback. Small cosmetic defects don't really bother me and the screen looks fine when its on. For the price it's worth it if you like old ipods like this.

3rd Generation Nano is a perfect evolution
The 3rd generation Nano, Available in capacities of 4, and 8GB (priced at $149 & $199 respectively) these have a scratch-resistant aluminum front, steel back (i recommend a cover to protect the back), rounded edges, and various colors, though the colors are only available in the 8GB models. You can get a 4GB Nano, though it only comes in Silver. The 3rd Generation Nano has completely redesigned the Nano, and it feels like it is different on the sides when you hold it comparatively to the older generations. This design also makes it feel a lot thinner than it was, which is hard to believe, though it is only millimeters thinner. The screen has changed too, having a 2-inch viewing area, which makes it very easy to use, browse and watch. This new Nano now has a longer battery life. Apple ... Apple claims that it will last 30 hours, but I was able to get just over 32 hours of playtime – which is nice… real nice. The 3rd generation Nano comes with similar features as the previous version such as Volume Limit, Stopwatch, Screen Lock, and support for the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, but now has a wide variety of features, previously not found in the previous generations. The new music search functions, the brighter screen (65% brighter than the 2nd generation), improved sound quality, coverflow, and added games give the new iPod added flare. The biggest difference in the 3rd generation of the iPod Nano is the new body style and the video capability additions. The body style has changed from the “stick of gum” shape, to the internet given nickname “fatty”. The wider iPod allows for a larger, 2.0 inch screen that allows for a larger viewing area for games, albums, but more importantly - video. Yes, the new Nano allows a “little video for everyone”. The video quality is sharp and crisp, and allows the user to watch TV shows with little strain, however, watching movies can strain the viewer (due to the length). This flash based memory player, and its storage size (4/8GB) allow for thinness, but if you put a couple of full length movies on your player, your space will fill up quickly. This is the one downside I have with this – hopefully there will be larger space selections in the future. Also, the bottom of this unit has changed slightly. The headphone jack, the hold switch and the sync port are at the bottom, with the sync port directly in the middle. This allows for ease of use to transfer data. s a fan small MP3 players, and of the past Nano line-ups, I love this design. I really do. I think the aluminum casing is the way to go, it is too bad it is not all the way around the unit. Should you replace your old 8GB Nano (2nd Generation) with the new one? If you really want video, coverflow, and games, I would say yes. Regardless if you upgrade, or decided to wait it out, I highly recommended this device to Apple lovers and new MP3 enthusiasts alike. Pros: -Brighter, crisper viewing screen -Better sound -Video capable -Aluminum scratch-resistant casing on front -Concave select button -Amazing battery-life: 30 hours plus (5 with video)! -Search features, cover flow, album art -New colors to choose from -Games for download via iTunes (3 are on the unit already) Cons -Still no built in FM tuner -Limited space when it comes to video -Sync port, hold switch, and headphone jack all on the same side"

Resistance is futile...
I work at a cd store and have resisted the ipod for a long long time. There is something about getting a cd, opening it and looking at the artwork that I love, so I was never into it. Until now. I saw the commercial while hanging out with some friends at the local bar, and decided to take a look, and I instantly fell in love. Now, like I said, I work at a cd store, so I couldn't really afford the price tag, but my girlfriend surprised me with one and I haven't left the house without it. I wear it while at my other job, even with video going, for background noise. Today I was sanding and filling and listening to emporer's new groove, and it helped me focus. I think you can tell I'm not the usual Apple customer. For specs, lookat the other reviews, but for personal insight, this is ... I work at a cd store and have resisted the ipod for a long long time. The battery lasts long enough for a plane ride, or a road trip to L.A. on the 405 in traffic. My girlfriend doesn't have a lot of CDs in her car and now I don't have to lug around a cd book. I can have an entire season of robot chicken ON THE GO... I can listen to something while working without the burden of a personal cd player and without torturing co-workers/classmates with my eclectic taste and ADD when it comes to music. From about a foot and a half away, the screen is about the same size as looking at my tv at the end of the bed. It's small and light. I smoke. I have a cell phone. Carrying an ipod classic would just be more stuff in my pockets. The casing. Aluminum instead of plastic. I want it to stay nice. Seamless case. I also work at a model shop, so sanding and dust don't get into it. Super clear picture. Storage. I'm not looking to upload an entire media archive of all I have aquired. I just want to have enough to get along while I'm not at home. I have 21 episodes of robot chicken, emperor's new groove, 561 songs and a mini portfolio of my artwork on it and still have 2 Gbs left. All in one lil' package. This is great, especially for art students. And I'm hard on things. I think this was a way smarter choice than getting an ipod touch. As for the decision of getting the product red one? Well, in all honesty, I think the black is the coolest LOOKING, BUT if I am to succumb to mainstream consumerism, somebody might as well be helped out by it! At least a few bucks go to help fight AIDs in Africa. It's not the bright red like the last generatiion (which I would have loved) but a more toned down almost maroonish red. But I love it. If it was stolen, I'd either hunt them down, or go get another one STAT. Hope that helps.

new nano DISSAPOINTING!!
The new iPod falls short from what I expected from Apple. The shuffle feature is terrible. From the coverlist (the main database for all your music), you can only toggle between shuffling the songs with in each album (after the album finishes, it stops) and shuffling the albums (the songs within the albums are played in order). There is no option to toggle to shuffle all songs. The only way to shuffle all songs (I did check with tech support) is to go back to the beginning menu and manually shuffle all the songs. Once done, the only way to stop the shuffling is to interrupt your music, go back to the main menu and re-enter into the Coverlist...it makes no sense! And iTunes isn't like that, nor do I think any of their other products are like that. The other dissapointment is that their ... The new iPod falls short from what I expected from Apple. Overall, I am very dissapointed in their product. I feel like Apple really fell short of their normal attention to detail. Be aware, there are a lot offers for apple's 3rd gen, that are cheap look alike's. Some are offered as "mirror copies", others do not have any indication that it is a copy. Look for the following: the original comes in a small plastic box and not in a cardboard box with a big green apple on it, the original has not a build in radio-reciever, a volume control from 0 to 31 in steps, a power-supply for USB, an info mini-CD, earphones in a box and a protection-sleeve. Don't let you fool by the apple look. If you plan to buy one remind the following: there are almost none new one's anymore, only used and refurbished.
