Dr. Joel Fleishman (Rob Morrow) never wanted to leave New York, but the lure of paying off his medical school bills by working in a remote area seems too good to pass up. However, the quirky citizens and sheer inconvenience of small town Alaska have him pining for the next flight back to Manhattan. Though Joel grudgingly stays, it takes him a while to adjust. Tiny Town Way Up North In Alaska
Northern Exposure is a quirky, funny and easy to watch TV series from the 1990s. It focuses on various characters who inhabit the tiny town of Cicily, Alaska. They form a warm community on the frozen tundra and their stories are often strange with lots of dream sequences. It is an excellent series. I recommend it highly.

Well written, superbly crafted, well played, and intelligently formed, not just a boobtube timekiller but a real, genuinely smart bit of braincandy that doesn't forget to tug a heartstring along the way. There wasn't a single episode that wasn't totally entertaining and absorbing, and season 5 took a good thing and just made it better and better. Receives my highest recommendation for a TV series. The actors, even the annoying ones, never fail to grow on you and every side story is just as interesting and absorbing as the main storyline. A modern fairytale for grownups that feeds the mind, heart, and soul while it tickles the funnybone.The best television series ever, period. Northern Exposure fifth season
They should bring back Northern Exposure. With the original cast. I can't believe they call it a drama. It's more of a dramedy. they should never have gotten rid of the main character in the sixth season it killed it.

Tying up loose ends
Northern Exposure was one of the best written television series ever, with the witty dialogue that makes the show sparkle. The characters are endearing. If you have the first 4 seasons you've got to add this to the collection. One of the few series that had a satisfying beginning, middle and conclusion, and this leads up to the final episodes. Love it.
