  • Magellan RoadMate

The Magellan RoadMate 360 brings full auto navigation to you at a reasonable price (in the world of GPS auto navigators), and is ready to use, right out of the box. With some complaints with the 300 model about difficulty in loading maps, this is not a problem with the 360 pre-loaded version. The RoadMate seems well suited to those who frequently travel and want car navigation. It can be easily set up in a rental car, in less than a minute. Overall it is simple to use and easy to learn. This unit is probably not suited to GPS enthusiasts, because many basic GPS type functions are not included. However for those only interested in road navigation, the 360 has all of the features you need and it will get you there with easy to understand voice and on screen directions.

  • Decent budget GPS unit.

This unit is a great GPS system for someone who travels within their surrounding states. Though it does contain a full U.S. map, it is divided into regions and clusters of states. If you are looking for an address that is outside your home cluster, you must first change the settings to load the cluster of states which includes the state of the address you are entering. This feature is required because the memory isn't sufficient to hold all the points-of-interest for the entire U.S. I have found the device useful when traveling to an unfamiliar city. I enjoy choosing the "Least Use of Freeways" route, as I have found it provides a more scenic drive in many cases. If I upgrade to another GPS unit in the future I would choose a system that has all states and points-of-interest loaded at all ...

  • Not bad, but needs work on address lookup

The magellan roadmate is a pretty good system. I have had mine now for about 3 months, and know it well. I am very savvy when it comes to gps units as I used to be a yacht captain, and have used them all. The directions on the roadmate are excellent, that is when you can find the address you are looking for. They tried to get cute with their "select address" function. It works like this, first you have to type in the street name. The problem with this is if you are looking for 5th ave, there is one in every town. So you then have to select the city. I would say about 30% of the time, the machine cannot find the address I am looking for. For example, Central Ave, in Yonkers New York, does not come up. This is a pretty major road for those of you familiar with westchester county. ...

  • Not Bad For The Money

I have had my system for 3 months now and it has saved me from totally getting lost a few times. The Roadmate 360 does have some quirks in it. Like several times the "voice" said turn to the right, while the picture was pointing to the left. I would definitely recommend that any new users start off by using it to go to places you already know like school, work, etc. for a few days, just to gain a feel for how the gps unit works and thinks prior to going some place new for the first time. About 98% of the streets that I have needed to find are in the system and you will get there with no problem. If the street is fairly new (less than 1 year old) it won't be in the system. Overall it's a pretty good system for around $200 or less. If you have more money to spend, there are better systems ...

  • Magellan GPS

This was a gift for my 25 year old daughter so I can only tell you what she's said so far. She used it to travel from Baltimore to Pa. to visit a family member. The GPS took her on a route that we have never used before and was not really even close to the three ways we have taken in the past. She swears that the trip would have taken her less time than the other ways except for one thing. It took her twice as long to get there because she got lost! The reason and main drawback of this unit seems to be that it tells you to turn or take an exit AFTER you have already passed it. Now wheather this means my daughter is driving too fast(which is a real possibility)or there is something wrong with the way she is using it I don't know.
