Set in our distant future, earth has colonized a second planet. Years later, earth leaders have decided to destroy the colony, and and were soundly defeated in the battle, north and south united to fight against earth, but split and became vicious enemies after.<br><br>The game itself is simple. You play a soldier who rides in a large robot, controlling it's actions and fighting against enemy robots.<br><br>Heavy Gear is quite like the Mechwarrior series of games (Mechwarrior, Mechwarrior 2: Ghost Bear's Legacy, and Mechwarrior Mercenaries), but has several new twists. Your robot (Gear) has wheels which allow you to move twice as fast when they are activated. As well, you have the ability to hold weapons in your hand, drop you weapon, and pick up one from your fallen foes.<br><br>Heavy Gear can be played in 2 seperate single player modes (Story and Campaign), and mulitiplayer support allows you to play over a net/modem connection.

  • Heavy Gear is a classic Mech game from the 90's... It's a must have.

    Heavy Gear is one of the all-time classic mech games, and is one of my favorites from my childhood. It, and its sequel Heavy Gear II, are must-haves for anyone who loves the mech genre. Note that Heavy Gear and its sequel are much better than the MechWarrior games; the missions, the customization of the gears, the gameplay are all more interesting, more complicated, and more fun. I often wish they&apos;d built versions of this game for the game consoles. It&apos;s a shame they didn&apos;t; it&apos;s such a lost opportunity. But honestly, the controls are a little too complex for a console controller; you use at least a dozen keyboard keys plus the mouse, there are squad commands to learn... I think you can even designate what formation you want your squadmates to take, like ...
