I have purchased 2 of these machines for mission quilting at my church. The 2206 machine is manual, with no computer parts. Our 2 machines keep going after 4 years of use. They are used by adults and young teens. Very simple to clean and oil, but rarely needs it. This 2206 machine is a workhorse. It's easy to use from the start. Within 10 minutes of opening the box, I had it sewing. This is a great machine for a new sewist, for a child, or for someone looking for a reliable machine for mending and craft projects. The machine has a handle for lifting. It is portable and easy to move. I highly recommend this machine. For my personal use at home (for quilting), I have the Janome Gem 720 and Janome 7700. Both are electronic and are excellent machines for the more advanced sewer and quilter. I have given the Janome 2206 as a gift, based on purchasing it for my church. It has turned out to be a popular gift. If you want a few more stitches, go with the Janome 2212 (also manual), but the 2206 is great! I bought this machine for the use of it's free-arm. However the free arm doesn't work for me because there is no way to adjust the pressure of the foot on the cloth; I need light pressure. It is a strong little machine; I can sew through 8 layers of muslin. It works very well for a small, basic, non electronic machine. I will ask a sewing machine tech if the pressure of the foot could be lessened and if not, I'll then have to sell it or give it away.
