    Not a typical cookbook

This is not a typical cookbook. It's part cookbook and part historical reference. I LOVE how this book is written, each chapter provides extensive historical context for the recipes, excerpts from the little house books, followed by the author's recreation of the recipes based on her research.

  • Little House Cookbook

I bought this book to go along with the Prairie Primer Unit Study. It has already proven to be a huge asset to this curriculum and I am very happy about the decision to purchase it. I like how it refers to the specific book it's from before each recipe and most of the recipes are easy enough for my children to lend a hand and even try for themselves. Great source of history and looking forward to trying more of the recipes. I highly recommend this for families interested in showing their children how people used to enjoy the many blessings of God in preparing wonderful meals and treats for their families.

  • Fun Read For Little House Fans

I loved the Little House series of books since my fifth grade teacher used to read chapters to us at the end of each school day. This is a fun addition to that set. I was always curious about Vanity Cakes, since I have never read about them or heard about them anywhere but these books. That recipe is here so I can try it. Reading this cookbook made me glad for my modern kitchen, as it was very enlightening as to how things were.

  • The Little House Cookbook

I bought this because I am reading The Little House Books to my kids and we are intrigued by all the neat things these people used to eat. It is a beautiful book filled with all kinds of interesting recipes that we can't wait to try. So far the only one we've tried is the homemade eggnog, that was such a treat! Next my son really wants to try Apples-N-Onions!! Couldn't be happier with the book. I also like how the book highlights the portions of the stories where the recipes were spoken of before each recipe is given. Makes it even more interesting. We love it!

  • Girlfriend just loves it!

I bought this for my girlfriend as a gift. (She's a big "Little House ..." fan) She just loves it! Says that it's well-rooted in the content of the original books and provides real insight into the food they would have eaten at the time. I recommend it.
